It doesn't sound like he's obsessed with the truth, at least not in this clip I've never actually watched the show, but it looks like the woman came in because of joint pain in her knuckle and the woman doctor gave a reasonable answer saying it could be arthritis, and the weird doctor started telling her that it could be a very unlikely flesh eating bacteria, which is technically true but it could of also been a million other things that are equally as unlikely, from this clip it sounds like he's obsessed with giving his patients outlandish diagnosis, but since it's a TV show of course he was right even though I have no idea how he could of known it was flesh eating bacteria when it could of literally been a million other things, but it's a TV show so the main character somehow knows it's a rare and unlikely diagnosis and they're able to guess perfectly with little to no information and when it could literally be anything else

If I’m ever in the hospital, I want my doctor to be as honest as possible. I could agree to sugar coating when talking to a child, but an adult patient deserves to know the facts, even if it’s just a possibility.
@zineguri8515
2 ай бұрын
this isnt about sugar coating, this is about ensuring you don't jump to very rare and very serious conclusions and thereby scaring patients when you are not sure of the diagnosis. Eg imagine being told by your doctor " you probably have cancer" just cause they found a lump. Tests to clear these things take quiet some time, so now you have to sit with the anxiety and worry of suspecting you have cancer. Its going to cause unnecessary distress and pain when you may not even have cancer. Its important to express risks but you don't scare your patient like that.

@@zineguri8515 people usually have stress and anxiety. It is better to tell them the risks and when it's ruled out they can say they were wrong and keep trying. Hiding it and not saying something just because someone isn't 100% sure on something makes it worse depending on the person. That female doctor didn't wanna say anything and instead of the patient losing just a single finger she lost an entire arm. The moral of the story is the possibilities need to be said so the patient if its an adult knows exactly what they could possibly have and they are aware of what they may need to do and start planning it. If they aren't told it can be at the very last moment and cause more trouble for the patient than if they were aware ahead of time
@Glizzyman
2 ай бұрын
@@SabrinaBoyette-fy9vgsee the problem with that is, that's now how you do it. You start with the highest possiblity options and go down from there but Murphy goes and jumps to the worst conclusions and it's only right bc it's a show, remember doing test cost money so if it wasn't a show the amount of money you would have to pay even more, no need to tell the patients it could be something that has 1% chance of actually being true, until you check the other options That's like telling someone "it could be cancer" for almost anything, and checking cancer first before something that's a lot more common
