On slavery, it far pre-dates the British Empire. In fact, the word slave is derived from Slavic since the Romans would enslave then so often. Though, regarding the British, they did not go into Africa and enslave, instead they just bought slaves from kingdoms that practiced it on other tribes they defeated (like the kingdom of Benin at the time.) The only European country that actually went into Africa and enslaved people was Portugal, and if you are wondering why this was that rare, it was because of Malaria, Dengue, and other infections that made most Europeans life expectancy drop down to 1/2 a year to 1 year if they ventured into Africa anywhere deeper than the coasts. Anyways, cheers for the video Mr. Rick.

@@sirPokerick No worries, I was excited that you got into a bit of history in the video since (in my opinion at least) you have the perfectly chill voice to be able to talk about stuff like that. Also, I want to say that you got me back into League and I now dabble in a lil bit of Yorick mid. I mostly just play Sion and Neeko, but sometimes I feel the urge to live slowly and have a family in the rift.

I’ve been loving your videos! As for the “poor people in America” thing, im not saying you’re wrong, I definitely believe I’m better off than most people by simply living here, and I feel very blessed. But when I was younger, basically until I moved out my family was pretty poor, and we could technically afford healthy food on top of our bills, but if we bought it, we couldn’t really have anything else, including saving money, though we couldn’t have that much anyways Which I know not everybody can do, but it’s important cuz so many different expenses could come up So we just didn’t eat healthy, so that we *could* save and also spend money on more than bills and food I know this sounds like first world problems, but that’s how it was. We chose fun and more financial security over personal health. Now I live alone, and make more than enough. I still eat unhealthily, because college takes so much money, though I should feel blessed to be able to go. Idk, it is all about perspective I agree. I acknowledge that the way I live is my choice, and many people in other places don’t get that choice. So I try to do my part, donate and all that, when I get the chance. I hope one day everybody can have a chance to choose

It may be true that it's better to be poor here than poor in most other countries, but it's still very rough to be poor in America. For alot of middle class Americans, it really is the land of opportunity. I can understand how from the outside looking in it might seem like just alot of suburban middle class Americans complaining about nothing, and sometimes that's the truth, but there are alot of poor Americans who suffer real oppression, whether or not they'd be worse off in another country. Not trying to take whatever you say too seriously, and I enjoy your content a lot 👌👌, just wanted to give my perspective

It is after all the centre of capitalism, totally agree with you and it the episode was kind of a tough watch for me despite liking Pokerick a lot. I didn't write a comment though because I am neither american nor am I especially knowledgeable about how life is in Latvia, but it did rub me the wrong way when you basically said that poor people (in america) shouldn't cry because they are blessed. Most Americans don't live in houses in bigger cities like LA, Seattle, NYC, Chicago. Those days are long gone. I'm not sure about living expenses in Latvia, but it's become more common for people to get multiple jobs just to pay rent and groceries in those cities, so it's not like all of America is super easy to live in. That said, we do have it pretty sweet for the most part.

The problem with how others view America is that everyone judges Americans and how we speak/judge our situation as though our country is no bigger or smaller than theirs. We have problems BECAUSE our country is huge. Some of our states are bigger than most countries. We're a country with many countries inside, we just call them states. Meanwhile, people living in the east (who, I personally feel, are the most judgy) are living in a country that wouldn't even be big enough to be considered a state. Now if you were judging a state rather than our whole country, your views would be more valid. Think of it this way - An indie game dev judging a AAA game dev. A small ass company who could probably live in a small house verse a company that needs its own state. Of course the problems and views are going to be different.

@23:26 - That's where you're wrong. America is fucked in that "healthy choices" are going to literally cost you your month's pay for 1 week of food. Meanwhile the crap that everyone says will kill us faster is affordable and offered in bulk. If the prices were different, we wouldn't have these problems. We probably also suffer from a large problem of importing too much and not growing enough. Again, this comes down to "we do things different and other people judge us for it". Our downfall is that we import and rely on unsustainable methods to provide for people. Our states rely on the fact that the COUNTRY produces, not the STATE. Whereas other countries pretty much are forced to provide for themselves because they are how they are. Sure they import things from time to time, but they don't have quite the need because they chose to do things differently. If each State produced everything its people needed, America would be a better place. But they don't.
@sirPokerick

In this conversation the details are very important. If average american salary is about 65k I want to see that list of groceries that will cost you your month's pay :D Also what we mean by healthy choices can be very different. I can't see how this conversation can even be had if we don't just compare some kind of lists. My point was is that even the poorest Americans can easily afford to live almost any kind of lifestyle they want compared to most of the world. And if I remember correctly the context was about americans whining or something like that

No, it is not true that the British Empire was the first to practice slavery. Slavery is one form or another has existed for nearly as long as civilization itself. Now, slavery in the form it took when European colonial powers enslaved people based on race and transported these slaves across the world was a new (at that time) and terrible version of slavery. However, it isn't fair or accurate to say that the Brits started slavery. I strongly suggest that you actually watch some documentaries or read some books so you can avoid spouting grossly inaccurate 'facts' on the internet.
