Two things: 1: If you like cameras, check out Camera Conspiracies! He's a funny dude! Plus he raised some great points I'd never come across before :) 2: Don't be a dick! People don't know what they don't know. What you think is obvious might be a revelation to someone else. We're all learning 😊 3: I don't work for Blackmagic! I've no affiliation with them at all. DV does odd stuff sometimes! I'm not here to defend it. I'm just a weirdo on the internet trying to make useful videos 😁

Alex, I appreciate your channel and humor a bunch. Point #2 needs to be said over and over. People don't know what they don't know. Fortunately, I knew 95% of what you showed in this video, but I learn a ton from you on a weekly basis. We all were beginners at some point! Now, if we can get BMD to build a proper Text tool like they have in Premiere.. It's the one thing I miss since moving to DR back three years ago.

6:45 While I love Resolve, I've always HATED the edit page keyframe system. Imo it's the worst part about Resolve, especially the spline editors, which are essentially unusable if you want to keyframe position and scale at the same time. We shouldn't have to go to the fusion page anytime we want our keyframes to look good

When I was doing a lot of data management on set I had a premade folder structure that could be imported directly in any video editor that supported folder structure, no matter what software you used you would be happy with it. I would always contact the editor to know if the structure was ok and if needed I would modify it for that specific shoot, but it was rare.

I actually prefer that you are not employed or paid by Blackmagic because it makes your responses more legit. You are simply defending the program you use for editing because you actually find it useful (minus some hiccups on the road but every program has them), as opposed to being paid by the company and you are just blindly defending them. Another great video by the great MrAlexTech.

Just a thought. It strikes me that DR is designed for Pro Edit facilities, and some of the fixes that can be done in the media page are there because that's where a professional would send their media first to do those jobs. I personally love the media page for all of the possibilities that it offers in media management, and is one of the strong points in DR. Fantastic tutorial as always, Alex. Thanks again.

Some good stuff in here. I'm still getting used to Resolve (I'm a recent Premiere refugee) and I have had some little things I have had to work out like this that are just different to Premiere. One thing that kills me about BOTH programs is that I can't draw a box to select multiple timeline clips if I have the Ripple/Trim Edit tool active. I can shift-select them individually, but I want to draw the box!

Really awesome video....unfortunately it didn't resolve my workflow issue. So here's one for you @MrAlexTech ...I hope you've got a fix for this! Why can't I smart filter the individual clips within a multicam once I add that multicam onto a timeline and cut it up into various segments? Here's the workflow use case...Imagine you strap two cameras on a vehicle (e.g. a kayak) one pointed forward and one backward and you film yourself as you travel around (e.g. catching fish). Sometimes you're pointed directly at the sun and sometimes you're not...in fact you're at all different lighting angles. Because you don't know when the action will take place you're recording all of the time. And at any point in time or lighting angle you may want to use the action captured (e.g. caught fish). The good news is that you've got multiple angles to play with in post. So you sit down, edit your footage, keeping only the best angles from your multicam shoot...sometimes wishing you could move the sun itself, but alas you can't so you take the other angle and/or cover with some b-roll or drone shots. Now you want to color it to ensure different cameras match, mood, etc. But those 300 segments you ended up with that reside inside of that multicam clip....there's no way to filter them to the given angle so that you can color that angle as a group....let me take that back, you can do it...you have to click one at a time with multi-select, ensure you're precise on your clicks and keep the multi-select key down, scroll the strip as you click each one, and once they're all selected right click and add them to a group. Now you need to repeat that same laborious process for the other angle too. Then you can lightbox each group, re-group any that have extremely different lighting, and now start color correction/grade against the groups you made. That whole precise-click-multi-select-and-scroll-with-manual-selection-of-angle-name part of the process would be two clicks if you could Smart Filter angles in a multicam clip. We can do it manually, we can even put them in groups, so why can't we smart filter them???

For the Transform Limit - I hit this frequently. It's basically due to zooming in really far into an image, so transforming to THAT extent happens frequently. The "fix" I found was to simply move the anchor point. If I want to zoom in on something, I move the anchor to it first, THEN zoom in and do minor adjustments.

The transform limit seems to be connected to Resolve's 16k image limit. You can't bring in even a still image that exceeds Resolve's max resolution limit (15,360 wide and/or 8,640 tall). I wrote to them about that years ago.

I'm curious can you import it into the Fusion tab and adjust it further? If so then one could make a custom Timeline Fusion transform filter that had controls to move the image around and that could potential fix it. I would test this my self, but I'm in the middle of a render. so can't test this at the moment.
@NathanShirley
2 жыл бұрын
@@billyoung9538 I would assume you could, if you had no other great choice. Fusion also has the 16k limit for images, but I've never had issues with its transform running into limits.
@billyoung9538
2 жыл бұрын
@@NathanShirley I think the image size limit likely has more to do with speed and video ram given how GPU dependent Resolve is, but I was just trying to think of a relatively simple solution to solve the transformation limit. One a Timeline fusion transformation fileter was mode, it should in theory be as easy to use as any other timeline filter, and one would only have to build the effect once and place it into the proper folder, depending on ones OS.

For sequenced images, Resolve assumes images are in sequence if they are named in any kind of order. It wouldn't lump them together if one image was "IMG 01" and the next was "IMG 03" for example. Most of the time, you do want sequenced images so another quick fix would just be to change one of the image names.

Hi Alex, Coming from Avid MC my main problem on the edit page is not being able to toggle between timeline and source clip. Wondering why nobody addresses this basic issue. On Avid I can toggle to the source clip, solo monitor an audio channel, set in and out points and route the selected channel to the timeline. In DR I have to delete audio channels in the clip attributes before editing or bring all audio to the timeline and delete then unwanted audio. Or I have to create timelines for my source clips as a workaround with the restriction of copying files to the timeline instead of editing. Being able to toggle to the source clip and routing audio would make editing in DR so much easier. That’s my main issue with DR.

Since 18 beta I get the File permission error for backups. No matter what drive I set it to. I also on a few occasions have gotten a weird save error that if I am not careful to copy timeline over after error can result in me losing everything.
