What's really being shown here is when the media says "the economy is doing great" that means companies are reporting record revenues and profits. The problem is these companies aren't passing that on to the consumers. Instead, they're being greedy by price gouging.

We focus on single family dwellings and allow communities to veto the construction of anything denser because it might be ugly to them or lower their home value. Zoning, our transportation systems, and NIMBY’s are way more harmful than private equity is.

Y'all just want to blame President Biden for things that he can't control. People’s perspective of the economy is based on the amount of money they are able to save after paying their bills. Some of us have not been able to save any money. The price of food rent interest of all gone up. But our incomes have stayed stagnant. There is no way that American worker can look at this economy in any other way except what it’s doing to our savings.
@Bossman-nt1tc

I could say the same thing when Trump was in office. I could even pay my bills. At least you could pay your bills, except savings. That you are not able to save doesn’t mean that many are not able to save. So, your indicator is very wrong. Lots of people that oppose Biden economic recovery are sumpky living in denial just to stay adamant for Trump. They’re not being realistic.

I’m not optimistic mostly because of the effects of those stagnant wages combined with higher prices. Even non-entry level job listings are promising entry-level wages. Those wages are getting us less and less. It keeps getting harder to buy groceries, let alone homes and cars, as prices rise. Having multiple jobs also doesn’t mean you’ll have enough money. I blame time, inflation, corporate greed, and government and corporate inaction through the years. Wages started stagnating while Gen X’ers were kids, and it gets worse with each generation. I see no hope for future generations of workers unless wages start increasing, even if we get a Universal Basic Income. (eta: I mean this with my own unstated assumption that the metrics normally used to measure how good the economy is measure how good it is for the rich and those with good retirement plans only, and how I described it is how it works for the rest of us. It looks like my generation will never be able to retire.)

This is excellent propaganda. Under Trump the unemployment rate was at 3.4% before Covid. Then Covid happened and it dropped to 14%. Before Trump left the unemployment rate went back to 6.9%. (Tho Biden has lied and said it was at 14% when he took office). After the pandemic the "bounce back" happened so people WENT BACK TO WORK. So now the unemployment rate is now at 3.9%. This has NOTHING to do with Biden. The economy being better is really just for WALL STREET/stock market. For EVERYDAY people the economy is not good. Before a large percentage of people could barely afford a four hundred dollar EMERGENCY. Now with inflation it's LOGICAL this is worse. The US producing more oil than Saudi Arabia has been true since 2018. Again this has NOTHING to do with Biden. There not being a recession has nothing to do with Biden. It's because again PEOPLE WENT BACK TO WORK after the PANDEMIC ended and so went back to SPENDING/consuming. Biden in his own words ADMITS that it's the "bounce back" from the pandemic that has actually "fixed" the economy then says but his "economic vision" will take effect too and after (Because most of the things he claims he has done, most independent groups say the benefits of them won't be see for YEARS. And it will be small anyways.) (paraphrasing). Biden has put in a few good appointees in the NLRB but it has done little to nothing to actually help more people get unionize. Tho it doesn't stop propagandist and Biden for taken credit for something he actually did nothing for. What has made more people get unionize is WORKERS on the ground fighting for it. Also Biden CRUSHED the rail road workers strike. Then shortly after, Palestine, Ohio train derailment happened, something that the rail road workers were WARNING ABOUT. Higher pay has been for a VERY small percentage of workers. Like for instance government workers that got higher minimal wage. It affected seventy thousand. It's funny/pathetic Hayes says/implies people give undue credit and failure to the president. And that is exactly what this piece is doing. Giving undue credit. And ignoring all the failure it actually shows. Look up the things FDR did under the same "so called" conditions. Biden doesn't come CLOSE to what he put into effect in his FIRST TWO YEARS. And look at what FDR continued to do it's LAUGHABLE to bring up FDR when talking about a president's achievements, and Biden in the same breath. This piece is PURE propaganda. That tries to use Fox News propaganda to try to make people FEEL that this nonsense most be right or true because the Fox News propaganda is bogus. But the truth is Hayes is as much a propaganda merchant as those he points at in the other news station.

Price gouging thanks to out of control corporate greed, and worldwide inflation thanks to still unsolved supply chain issues and pent up demand by buyers is something no President or govt can do much about. I buy only what gas I need for each week, and buy less of everything else. Mkts like to pull that trick to sell more; buy 5 or 10 and save X dollars. NO WAY lol! I will take 1 or maybe 2, AND NO MORE! Prices will come down and supplies will rise if everyone acts accordingly. Few need to fill up the gas tank to FULL, and how many need large qty's of each grocery item. Big oil WANTS tight supplies, same w merch retailers, and home sellers. While the supply chain has been fixed since 2021, companies are continuing to ride the coattails of that excuse and have drastically increased the costs of goods without any real or tangible explanation, then turn record-breaking profits. Cereal, for example, they made the boxes smaller and are charging double. $8.00 for an 18oz box of Cereal. That 18oz box size used to be the regular size and has been rebranded "Family Size", while a 20.6oz box is now "Giant Size". And I'm not fooled by that larger box of only 2.6oz more because the bag inside is filled less than it used to be. Cereal is just 1 of MANY examples that need to be addressed.

@link8689 I have 2 college degrees, and I'm a small business owner with sales as 25% of my revenue. I'm fully aware of how inflation works. Thank you for incorrecting me. What you're ignorant about is costs vs. profits. Take a product you buy often, and cost compare that product at 3-5 different stores. For example, RainX washer fluid, for example, before Covid, it was roughly $3.75/gallon at Autozone. Now at Autozone, Meijer, O'Reilly's Auto Parts, and Wal-Mart, it's nearly $10/gallon. I happened to come across it at Home Depot for $3.89/gallon. There's usually only 1 or 2 distributors for that product in any major metropolitan area, and the same is true for most products. What the massive differences in pricing signifies is, is price gouging. The pricing agent at Home Depot hadn't done a cost comparison of that product based on the going market value in this region and looked at an older pricing sheet to get that price. Washer fluid isn't a regular product that they stock, so it's not something they're going to pay attention to to keep at a regional market value. I buy construction materials for my clients, and I'm a licensed reseller in my state, so I'm constantly buying directly from the manufacturers, and I do cost analysis on what it would cost at say Plumbing Supply, or Home Depot so I know what to charge my clients for those products. I buy them at cost, I have my markup, and I keep my costs competitive but always under the price of a box store. Regarding Larry Summers, the reason he's touting that inflation is going to remain high is for a variety of reasons, but there's a cause and effect thing going on sort of like the snake eating its own tail. To combat high inflation, the Fed increases the percentage rate on lending power to curb people from borrowing money, this in turn slows the economy, demand reduces, supply increases, and costs come down. That's how it's supposed to work. But we have a VERY strong economy and people are still borrowing regardless, still buying, and since demand is up, and suppliers know their products will sell regardless of the price tag they put on it, we have record high profits being made by all of the major box stores. This added cost of living/record breaking profits has caused employees to be standing firm with employers for better pay and benefits. Despite the company's abilities to afford the better pay and benefits to their employees, they don't want that additional cost of business to come out of their record profits so now they're passing that onto the consumers. Instead of being happy with making $26B in a year and passing on the addition $10B/year in profits to their employees, they want that $10B for themselves and will just continue the cycle of raising prices for the sake of greed. Most Box stores sell their products at a markup of 17%, but the last few years it's been anywhere from 25% - 75% markup. Unless the house and senate step in to cap living expenses, the costs are just going to continue to climb at the current rate they are, which is far out-pacing the I flatiron rare.

There's three issues that are keeping the American people pessimistic about the economy: Housing, the price of groceries, and the fact that wages have not kept up with the rate of inflation.
