How much would you sell a knife like this? You do great work, I'm surprised that you don't use a guide for grinding your bevels. They are super straight considering their done freehand. I too would not be ashamed to own this one, a knife that gets used will get scratched eventually. What steel are you using as I am a fan of carbon steel blades. I find that most stainless blades won't hold the edge of a good carbon blade.

Really nice little knife! Any concern with heat treating the blade at full 3/16 thickness and it being completely hard throughout? IIRC I've heard other makers claim 1080 isnt a very 'deep' hardening steel or something to that effect. I mostly work in stainless and send out to professional HT- even still I normally grind in rough bevels leaving it fairly thick and finish the bevels after HT. Also I just started using kydex and scratched a few knives too >< Kydex makes an awesome sheath but it always leaves scratches :\
@RedBeardOps
4 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm not overly concerned. I think you'd need to get even thicker for that to become an issue. I guess one good point would be that the edge will still be in the middle of the blade and still hardened to the same depth. Maybe the center of the blade would be soft? This may be a feature! Thank you for your comment! I'll have to think on it some more. Cheers man.
@007Jaredboy
4 жыл бұрын
@@RedBeardOps That is a good point, the edge should be fully hard. It would be interesting to do a test: HT one blade full thickness and RC test, then another with bevels pre-ground in and see if there's a difference; though there's a lot of variables that could happen to make this an uneven comparison...

If you use a grading stone on your Winn (so?) sharpener, you can go to 1000 grit edges before stropping. Then, stropping will be more effective and leave a much nicer finished edge. Grading stones are common for folks that use that other brand of sharpener the Winn is copied from....and you can buy their grading stone at most places that sell them. Just sayin’... Nice work. I appreciate that you don’t edit out the warts. We all have them, but too many are either too vain, proud, embarrassed, whatever to let them show in the final. Hey, it makes you more real, more human and more likable to us other mere mortals.

Thank you sir! I do have a grading stone. I probably need to start using it more! Really happy you enjoyed the video! Cheers sir!

I think that since you messed it up up....you should just sell it to me super cheap. Lol for real, man, good looking knife. I'd carry it on the regular...super deep gouges and all. Hell, that's nothing compared to what I'd put it through just using it

No sir, I do put up a knife for sale from time to time on instagram though. My handle is RedBeardOps on there as well.

What is the overall length of this EDC? Going to try to make something similar. You referenced the link for the pdf, is the pdf same length as this knife?

Hey Edwin, I don't 100% recall. I'd say the handle is about 3.5''. A 3 finger hold

I get why it would irritate you, but you got to keep a knife that would have looked like that after using it once anyway. Cant have too many knives lol.
