i hate the "it's their job" argument because i feel like it's a massive self-report that you don't think an idol should have a life outside of their work. like, small scale example, i work in an office where i have to dress business casual. but, after work and on weekends, i have more of a goth or grungy look. i feel like nobody would tell me that i can't do that because that's my personal time, i can do whatever i want. but when the person in question is an idol (or any kind of celebrity really), it's like the whole existence of personal or off-time just doesn't exist anymore. they always have to be in idol-mode. like, unless an idol is actively performing or filming content in public, then i don't care what they get up to (unless it's like horribly illegal, obviously) and i hate seeing it. like, i don't want to see pictures of idols at the airport or going out to eat or anything from their personal time. unless they post it themselves, it's none of my business

Fr and the b*tches always using that "it's their job" line to just hate on idols are honestly hilarious acting like they're PERFECT at whatever their job is. Like yes it's their job to sing and dance and such but wtf these b*tches act like they've never f*cked up their job before. They've NEVER made a single mistake, they've NEVER looked like a complete amateur while doing their job, they've NEVER had to grow to get better at the job. These b*tches act like they could do these idols jobs better if they just walked up to the companies doors (bet no company would even except them into a trainee) "it's their job" like- okay and what's yours? Why aren't you doing it right now? 🙂 Bet most of them saying that don’t even have jobs and that's why they don't understand how human beings work💀

I think that it's particularly important for clear boundaries to be set during fan calls as too many idols have been forced to participate in uncomfortable interactions with fans too often. Therefore, I think fan calls should be regulated in a way where: 1. Guidelines on behaviour during calls that protect idols from experiencing emotional distress/discomfort are sent to fans a day or two prior to establish expectations for how they should behave during fancalls. 2. Staff can oversee the call as it takes place and if fans violate said guidelines by acting inappropriately, they have the power to end that call. By having staff be responsible for this, this could reduce the likelihood of fans spreading hate online towards the idol in retaliation and make idols feel less pressured to tolerate mistreatment from fans because of such consequence. 3. Fans are punished differently depending on how inappropriate their behaviour during the calls are, with abusive/sexual spoken or body language meaning an immediate ban on future events. Bare in mind, this is just my suggestion as someone who knows nothing on how these fan calls work. I doubt that regulations like this will take place as it tends to be the most obssessive fans that buy the most albums to win fan calls.

In house therapy would have to come with a change to mental health stigma overall in S. Korea. Some idols may even need some medications. I still remember Park Bom being branded as this "drug-smuggling addict" when she only imported her anti-depressants from America because it's illegal in S. Korea (at the time). I'm still bitter about it!

I know there are many channels discussing the issues with the K-pop industry, but we have to appreciate what you do because this takes time, energy, and effort. Personally, out of all the channels that are out there, this is definitely one of the most clear, respectful, rational, empathetic, evidence-based, and informative K-pop channel. I was glad to see at least someone make a formal discussive video on how ENHYPEN is getting overworked, and I'm still now glad to see someone who speaks on what all companies should have as the bare minimum. If I could make a suggestion (not that you need to accept it, it's your channel), it may be informative to make a discussive video on the different ways fans can take action to help make the industry a better place, because I think some people may not be aware on all the different ways they can help the industry be a better place (apart from boycott. some examples that comes to mind is reporting innapropiate fanmade content or speaking up on social media). Either way, thank you for always making these very needed videos and speaking up, keep up the work that you do!! :))

Adding to the tour point, I'm always so sad when I see a comeback announcement during or just after a tour because you know they had to be preparing a comeback during a tour. For example aespa, they been recording things during the tour and we know this for sure because Giselle suddenly went blonde during the tour, the tour is not done and they're promoting the new comeback already. Same thing with gidle, for the past year they basically only stopped touring to have a comeback and then go right back to touring...

In terms of personal relationships. I like to think of them as customer service workers in glamorous settings. Like I wouldn't be mad at a kfc employee for dating someone off the clock, whether it be their own college that's for their company. I won't make a fuss about it pretending their relationship affects the way they take my order or interact with me. And with idols, them dating or not doesn't affect the music they make, their dancing or their visibility in interviews and shows. If anything it's a possible outlet to all their stress they can't share with friends and especially fans. I root for them and hope fans realize their dreams as artists isn't a sellout for their humanity

The mental health one is very necessary and I find most people agree but what is more interesting for me is maybe the why we don't see it being implemented. If you've seen the le Sserafim documentary you probably know that Eunchae is shown having an anxiety attack, to me what was interesting is what the manager said. She basically says that Eunchae has had hyperventilation before when she runs out of breath so she just needs to rest. But most people in the west call it right away that's an anxiety attack, yet everyone around her didn't bring up the issue... Maybe I'm reading too much into it but people in the industry not being able to point out basic symptoms of anxiety may be the reason why we see idols having such severe levels of anxiety they need to stop working. I don't know much about south Korean society but mental health issues there seem to be all or nothing, you don't need help until you snap, and that may be because the basics of mental health issues are not spoken about like in the west. Edited to correct some statements because I re-watched the clip and I said things as I remembered them and was wrong...

When it comes to mental health I know it matters a lot about 3 main things that cause people to avoid it. 1. family and culture, in many families and cultures mental health is shunned and something that doesn't exist as its all in your head and not something "physical" this also goes into religion. And with Korea perfectionism and many other aspects against mental health going to find or receive help is looked down upon. 2. Expectations, like is said about Korea having high almost "perfect" expectations, especially with idols who are the "embodiment" of this, they, idols, may feel that their mental health is something that shouldn't matter as much as the pressures of success does. Work culture is to the top in places like Korea. 3. financial situations growing up, when growing up, everything can affect how you see things in the future. If you don't have the best situation financially you'll often see those around you have to work even when sick to make sure you can have a meal on the table. So in these cases you see health doesn't matter and work and money is everything. I have family that are the same. They avoid their health both, physical and mental, because they choose and think it's an unnecessary burden. It is something toxic about our world.

What is your preferred schedule promotions for idols? I think 2 comebacks a year is a good and healthy promotional period for groups. Ive is one of the groups I feel like have a good schedule. In 2023 they had their first full album, japanese release, and a comeback with a mini album.
@luna_n0va
12 күн бұрын
I agree that 2 comebacks can be a balanced schedule, but it also depends on what else is planned for the year. Having two comebacks while also being on tour can be too much. I think adding in rest periods and making sure certain schedules don’t overlap, etc. is something to keep in mind. For me it differs depending on the circumstance
