Great video. Can you tell me the type of discus that are in tank behind you? There's one with a green sheen. Then there is a blue that has pigeon toe characteristics. Is there a blue with bars? Are they stenkers? Thinking of starting another tank. Currently have stenkers German Wonders. Thanks!

Hi there, they are not bred by me but from a friend of mine. Turquoise is the general strain name of all the blue guys. There is one amazing light blue boy in there, he is a cobalt. Gill. He is 6 years old. Stendker. The Orange one, Gary, is 5 years old and a Checker board from Stendker yes. The green one you see is the oldest fish. His name is Thor senior, the dad of my monster 20cm Thor junior. Thor senior is a whopping estimated 7 or 8 year old fish with pigmentation marks from age. He has a subtle tint - the Eastern farm turqs tend to have this trait. He is suspectedly from Indonesia. But origin unknown. The mother and the kids are from German origin, suspectedly also Stendkers long ago.

If you are interested in the minty green sheen, then you will love the strain "Solid Turquoise" or "Ocean green". Go google that. Stendker has Solid Turquoise, but better quality discus from Czech republic is Diskus Siner. He has the best greens in my opinion.

@@discusdivana7581 thanks for the info. I'm in the states and Siner doesn't have a distributer here. Also I currently have stenker strains in my tanks and don't want to possibly introduce a bad bug.

Do yellow discus that become orange return to yellow if you stop feeding foods with carotenoids?

Do you have any kind of emergency back-up systems for the case of an unecpected fallout of electricity ??
@discusdivana7581

Hi there, yes I do. South Africa has load shedding and power outages regularly. Despite having one of the top highest electricit tariffs in the world, we get power cuts twice a day sometimes. Oxygen is on deep cycle batteries, hooked onto an inverter and multiplug. I have 3 big air pumps that are connected to the deep cycle batteries. 12 Volt ones. They last 2 days without any other backup. Oxygen is my first priority during power outages, then heat. Then, we recently got a first phase done of solar power. My fishroom has priority feed and the power is stored on lithium iron batteries but not yet enough to sustain all my heaters for 24 hours yet. My fishrooms are insulated with polystyrene, also known as k-lite or styrofoam. This takes 2 days for my fishroom to cool down completely in Autumn. If all hell breaks loose and a power station burns down, then the last resort is heat coals. Making a fire with heat coals. Rediculous but saved some tanks of mine before. I put the hot coals in a steel pot or pan that can float and float in the tanks. A last resort also is a big geyser with hot water. Using hot water and dechlorinators to add heat to tanks. But on the more practical side, we have solar power now and deep cycle gel batteries. I think I have 12 of them on a 2000Watt inverter. Just for oxygen.

@@discusdivana7581 do you use a heater controller, and if so any recommendations, on a good brand thank you
@discusdivana7581
2 жыл бұрын
@@simonpidgeon949 I do not yet use temperature controllers because they can be pricy. On central filtration systems a temp controller is suitable. I run indiviual tanks for biosecurity purposes. So what I do is I just buy a good heater that won't break soon. One of the key components of heaters that fail the quickest are the thermostats. Rather invest in a more expensive heater brand. EHEIM Jägers are my favourite heaters. Otherwise the cheaper ones I use are the ViaAqua brands.
