This was really interesting to hear what the ADHD impacts. We think kid might have that, but as they're 19 now it's harder to get diagnosed

Getting diagnosed certainly wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be, but it did take a very long time

I have started outling before the second draft with what I want to change. As much as I have tried it for a first draft it doesn't work because I will drastically change something and then have to change everything anyway. I have done 1000 words a day on weekdays since the start of last year and somehow managed to keep that but its not a habit. I have to force myself most days to get things done and know if I stop for one day I will end up stopping for months. Weekends I made breaks on purpose if I wanted or needed a break because I know from past attempts that I cannot maintain every single day. I have the mindset of I eventually I want writing to be a job but if I cannot maintain daily work days writing then its not going to work when I get to that point. I have so many WIPs and always having to jump between them to keep making progress. I hope that I get myself to the single digits of WIPs because I had over 200 at one point because I kept starting them.

Big relate! Got diagnosed 6 months ago as well and learning to live with it. "Starting with a small thing" is such an easy way to get going that I keep forgetting about, even though it works time after time. I've also been toying with the idea of combining cleaning with structuring, as sorting and prepping things is something I'm drawn to and riding that wave to get cleaning done worked the one time I thought of it. And limiting my number of projects to a handful is on the table as well.

I got diagnosed 32 years ago, & I never learned to deal with it!

It’s all about finding the way that works for you. Would love to hear how the cleaning/structuring works for you

Contest switching is SO DAMN HARD for me too, it takes all my brain power T-T I forgot that music used to be how I context switched in the past, I have specific sounds for working (brown noise is brilliant) and a fun singing playlist for chores xD As for notes, try the phone! I have so many notes in the notes app, I still use random bits of paper too, but it's mostly all on my phone - I even transfer the analog to digital...when I'm motivated xP I should really pin my paper notes to a board whenever I make them...

My phone is also littered with notes! Most of them make no sense. And I love using specific sounds for different things, will have to experiment with that

AuADHD here… totally relate.. a trick that maybe can help with the new scenes on Draft 3… go back to Draft 2 and write them there, and then go ask to draft three to improve them to the quality that you want… your brain is going to be ok with the new scene not being draft 3 quality, because is going to be on draft 2 document… brains are dumb sometimes and you can trick them xD.

Also… I have like 6 places where I save things… what I did was to take pictures of the notes that I want to keep and save them as a pdf that you can add to whatever app you use for your drafts.

And also (sorry for so many comments) I just watched Searching for Samantha class on outlining (also adhd) and what she does make sense for me… is a progressive outline… so goes from brain dump to specifics of the genre, but little by little so, I think is going to work for my “I don’t want to outline” mode that I’m in…
