Finally someone admitting the glass containers are a waste of money. I see them in every single home tour video. I don’t get what’s wrong with keeping the food in the original packaging and storing them in the pantry so you have empty countertops to cook

I have large glass mason jars for rice, pasta, beans and flour. I keep all other foods in recycled jars of all sizes: crackers, dried fruit, nuts and seeds...because I live in a rural area and this protects all items in the pantry- from mice and ants. I also leave whole cinnamon sticks to deter ants 🐜 ( works) and my 2 cats handle mice patrol if needed. I appreciate the visibility and freshness of the food in labeled jars and do not use any plastic storage bags or containers. Left overs are stored in recycled jars or Corning wear with lids that can also be put into the toaster oven immediately to be reheated.

I see this all the time too! Most can be kept in original packet but I keep my flour and pasta in jars as otherwise they get spoiled with bugs 😩

Right?? I mean, it makes sense if you're buying with a "Zero Waste" mentality but if you're just moving the food from the original packaging to a glass jar, that's pointless and just adding extra work that I don't want to do.

To my young "sisters" from me, who is a woman in the 50s club. Here is what I have learned from my experiences & regrets: Learn to really love & accept yourself. Be ok with what YOU like & what YOU want for YOUR life. Don't try to fit in, instead just be your TRUE SELF. Don't follow the crowd, be your own leader. Respect your body, because no one else will. DO NOT allow anyone to cross the boundaries you set for yourself. Once you allow someone to do that, you have given them a pass to do it to you again. My last msg to you: You ARE beautiful. Smile. Hold your chin up. And let your confidence flow.
@alyssawoodman

I get what you mean but I also don't know what to say when I read something like this. Most of it I agree with (respecting yourself, boundries etc.) But the thing I struggle with the most is "don't try fitting in." I'm 34, married for 8 years and I have a 7 year old son. I have spent my entire life defending my "not fitting in." In a nutshell, most people don't "allow it." Yes you can be whatever you want , but bear in mind any path you choose will have naysayers and in some places those naysayers are so loud people die for not "fitting in." Even if it isn't that dire, I have had to endure bullying, excommunication, illegal firings and even eviction for not "fitting in." I can explain further if needed but all I'm saying is sometimes I wonder if it's easier to play the fitting in game where appropriate and doing what you want when you can and are away from your harshest critics. Just a thought from a perma loner artist...

Very helpful video on my journey to becoming a minimalist. One thing I do are "what if" purchases. Some of the products actually do stop working and I was left with four unopened bottles each of shampoo and conditioner. I donated them to a shelter for abused women, check with your nearest women's shelter to see what they take. This is a cause close to my heart because for years I was a battered wife.

Thank you for sharing! This is a great idea. I wonder if they’ll take bras. I’ll have to do some research for the Boston area. Then I gain weight and never fit them again 🤦🏻♀️

Sounds like you went gungho when you became minimalist. I understand that; a lot of people do. That's why we need to be careful when we read minimalism books; we can't take all the advice, because a lot of the authors are new minimalists who haven't found their true selves yet in minimalism. My definition of minimalism is just having what I need and that brings me joy, and not having what I don't need or doesn't bring me joy. I don't care about what anybody else thinks. I don't care about the number of items. I don't care about numbers or colors. I just have what I need and in the colors I love, and everything thing else will fall into place. I've always saved jars instead of buying matching ones. In fact, I had to throw some out because I had too many. I love looking at vids of your old apartment; it is so soothing. I enjoyed this video.

I use organic coconut in the summer ( cooling) and sesame oil in the winter ( warming ) with a few drops of frankincense to oil my body with a massage daily and do not use body creams. I make my own facial masks and scrubs from food ( yogurt, chick pea or almond flower, turmeric and crushed rose petals as a exfoliant and mask) to nourish my skin which limits my need for over the counter beauty products. I’ve used Jojoba oil with a drop of frankincense applied to the face and throat as facial massage and followed by rose water spray for years. This keeps it simple and nourishing .

I get your point. For me, i would buy things as brand new (except for apparel) Most of the gadgets are being sold because they already have an issue. For automotive, i want a brand new car/motorcycle rather than getting a 2nd hand because it’s less likely to be a pain in the ass. I bought my motorcycle a year ago and it’s one of the best decisions that i made. Some friends of mine bought a motorcycle as well (2nd hand) now they’re telling me that they’re having issues with it.

I use glass jelly jars, etc. to store dry cat food. I divvy the bag(s) of food into smaller rather than larger jars, figuring that this will keep the food fresher. My cats seem to think it helps. Boil the jars to remove label, then remove any glue residue with the scrubber side of that sponge you llike (which I purchased only because you recommended it and I love it, too. You deserve a sponsorship! Or two or ten.).

For the glassware I do both but I don't overdo it. I recycle jars and I bought some that look nice for things I don't want to keep in boxes like pasta. The clothes, honestly style changes all the time is important to just spend on timeless pieces you love. I only purchase new clothes if my old clothes are done for ,and they usually are just basic. Same thing with hair and face products. Less is better and you just have to eat healthier and drink more water. The cars, I agree either lease them or just purchase a used car. I bought a used car recently and it works just great! Same with cellphones! Use it till it gives out, a new cell every 6 months is not worth it.

Love this video! I'm trying to buy myself a new car soon and I don't know what to do! I have always wanted to buy a jeep but Im making minimum wage and I don’t think it’s the smartest thing to do right now. Even though I feel that if I’m gonna spend 20,000 on a regular good car I would rather have that go into my dream car. I’m feeling kinda stuck 🤦♀️
@naz-nazneen886
3 жыл бұрын
Just my suggestion (I'm 51) Buy a Certified Used. You're only making minimum wage, so with that, a Jeep is not affordable to you. Stop in 3 tire stores & ask them how much would it cost to replace tires on a Jeep. This way you'll hear it for yourself, what amount you would need to have saved on the side for them. That's just tires & not other maintenance. For your minimum wage, you'll want to choose a vehicle that has the most gas mileage (mpg). Having ECO Mode is ideal. And a vehicle that has smaller tires, so they are more affordable to you. And a vehicle who's car insurance won't be high. Toyota would be my #1 choice. They have excellent resale value. Choose 5 affordable vehicles that is within your realistic budget. Have in mind your max, out the door price. Ex:no more than a 20, 000 loan. Have in mind a realistic, affordable monthly payment & stick to that. Before heading to car dealerships: check out all 5 of your vehicle choices in the Kelly blue book. Keep your list with you. This gives you negotiating power. Good luck with your future purchase!
