These are wild animals. They are very difficult. It’s not the same as a domestic cat or a dog. Humans have domesticate these animals thousands and thousands of years. Because these are animals you CAN domesticate … It's the same with farm animals. Not every animal can be domesticated equally well. You can domesticate Pigs, cattle, chickens, goats, sheeps on the other hand, you cannot domesticate zebras. Otherwise our ancestors would have done this. They weren't stupid. Our ancestors figured this out a long time ago. It depends on the species. I am absolutely not a fan. They are wild animals and therefore difficult to control. But now we have IG, KZitem and there you go - that's what it is. To be honest, these wild species shouldn’t not live in a living room. They need only nature. No humans. We do this because we are egoists. But that's just how we are. I love animals. And that's, why I haven’t one at all. ;)

Very cruel to bring such a cat home, if your not relatively wealthy or financially secure and young and healthy enough to ensure you will live another 35 years, to take care of the Cat. If a couple brings a cat home then gets in car accident and die in 5 years, then this cat will stop eating and commit suicide. For that reason I believe it cruel to try to bring such a cat home to raise, unless your life is Set and Secure ! This is not for people who are poor or in unstable situations. Wow Poor cat

Thank you for trying to make an informative post. Respectfully, all these reasons and more are why servals should not be pets. They should be left in the wild. I’ve studied this a lot, and there are actual physical, mental, brain and other significant differences in hormones, etc that mean servals, wolves, and other wild cats/dogs cannot fully adapt to domestic life. And it’s unfair to try to make them. You seem like you’re trying to make a good home, and I truly commend you for that. But please don’t encourage anyone to ever get servals, even if they’re “ok” with these things you mentioned. We have to respect these animals needs first. ❤️

I am a cat lover. Anyone who takes a wild cat out of it's environment, should be shunned! They are not impressing anyone, who truly cares about beautiful wild animals. They are not a status pet, nor should they be a pet. In my eyes, I find this a grave mistake for their Serval! They are meant for the Wild, and are not a house pet. They can most definitely turn on you at any time. I do agree they are very beautiful, quite stunning in fact. But they should not be confined as house pets. They must be owned by narcissists who would dare do this, thinking they can. Remember this Wild cat can rip you, or a member of your family to shreds. You think you might know them, but you don't. You will never take the "Wild" instinct out of them. It is wrong to make them your house pet, because of your selfish ego and thinking you have a Status Cat that should never be owned. some stuff is a bit exaggerated. my vet does everything for the serval at the same price as for cats. food - house cats and servals evolved to eat same thing: rodents, birds and insects. So feeding serval and cats should be same, cheap cat food is no good for cats either, AND by the way same way for dogs. Some cane corso should also eat meat and something for fiber, and that's several times of what a serval can eat. Cat/dog food is processed grains/starch which is something neither felines nor canines supposed to eat (I will go further and say that humans shouldn't either, at least on daily basis). So you are supposed to spend on serval food about as much as on mid size dog. 30 years life span is probably like 100 years for a human - rare. food again - meat is not that super expensive, you can buy 50-100 LB at a time from a local butcher at a discounted price. Sam's Club has good prices on chicken too. Our serval eats just fine when we are away for a weekend. Activity, bonding, playing - that part is similar to having a dog. So essentially having a serval is more like having a dog in a feline body that lives twice longer

even if it's a little exaggerated, this video helps create a reality check to those unsuitable to own one who were thinking about getting one. the majority of humans wouldn't be good caretakers for a serval, but there's a few wonderful people like you who devote so much to bond with them. I especially love how many exotic pet caretakers record so many videos of them, giving everyone a chance to view the behavior of an incredible animal.

The food and medical issues arent really problems unless you dont have the money/coverage (or, no available vet for any reason.) There are a lot of animals that will look for their owners or food after a prolonged lack of care and supervision, which is why they should be housebroken with someone responsible in case of emergency/prolonged absence. I think the biggest problem with "exotic" pets is that they have heightened sexual and social pressure even if theyre neutered/spayed before puberty and raised around other animals of the same species as well as caring humans. They can definitely bond but they can become very distressed in a foreign environment and climate, with innate desires that may be as annoying to us as we are to them.

Funny this just popped up. I was just having dinner with my son tonight, and he is an ER Doc at a trauma center. Last night he had a woman come in who was partially scalped by her Serval! It was a bit of work to put her back together evidently!

This is the definition of a cat lady. She revolves her whole life around her serval. Will even stay in an unhappy marriage so as not to upset the cat. No vacations or visitors either. Wow.

To all the idiots-harp on the true cruelty to animals that should be in nature preserves or in the wild that are trapped in zoos, please. I've watched all the shorts and then happen upon this. She is beautiful. What is ugly are these people and their comments/opinions. The same "what about the children" people who don't give a damn about the children and take to the "airwaves" to condemn you for showcasing a gorgeous cat that has every "right" to be in captivity. Also, if I had the space, I have the personality, lifestyle and means to own such a cat. I love Chloe, Greg ❤

Hint .....thoroughly wash and dry a discarded toy then hide it for a few weeks . it should fool the cat into thinking its new. Works well with ferrets who only play with a toy a few times before getting bored.

It's not domesticated and too dangerous. This couple is headed for a crisis because they have lost respect for the cat. The way they play shows a reckless disregard for the fact this is not a house pet. Play fighting over food or prey is anything but play for the Serval. Tug of War is not seen as a game but a challenge. For now it defers to its owner because it believes the human is another cat but of higher status. Eventually it will challenge the hierarchy by turning on its human to achieve more power. Or because it feels threatened. Like when the Serval carried its toy into the cloth tube. Animals do this to protect a catch from rival members of the pack. They find a shelter where they can eat in peace. So this animal did feel threatened. It's very strong and could crush bone and rip off fingers if angered. ITS NO HOUSE KITTY. This reminds me of the friend of a baby chimp owner who was told it is just like a member of the family so don't worry. However it was becoming an adult with the need to challenge Alphas so it went after the friend. The woman was so damaged her attending team of doctors had to go see therapists to deal with the horror they felt ...

There is nothing in this world more violent and psychotic than chimps, there is zero comparison on that part. Cats don't even have a "status" system, they have families.

Servals are no more dangerous than a dog of similar size. The worst this one would do if it snapped like you have in your weird fantasy is give them some bad puncture wounds and maybe stitches from getting scratched- and domestic house cats already send people to the ER for their bites anyways. Or we can look at a certain dog breed that mauls people to death weekly in the USA, but I guess that’s less fun than fearmongering over a cat a little bit larger than a Maine coon. Their main prey in the wild is birds and small mammals, the danger is really overblown. Look at the photos of the extremely rare serval attack incidents with superficial wounds and compare them to the facial-reconstruction-tier maulings dogs give children ever week and try telling me the servals are more dangerous. A dog ripped a woman’s entire face off recently and ruined her life. Servals have never killed or disfigured a human and never will.

This is ignorant. You people shouldn't have a serval as some type of pet. That is a wild animal that should be living in the wild. But it's too late for that. WHEN this cat becomes too much, make sure you find it a good place to live out it's days where it will be safe.. Like the The Wildcat Sanctuary in Minnesota. As someone else commented here. You've lost respect for this animal and what it is. I hope one day that when this animal loses respect for you. That something horrible doesn't happen. I don't want you people to be hurt and I don't want that poor cat to pay the price either.
