i love how some of your points are focused more on the thought process and creating the desired effect through intentional design rather than a specific item or feature

Yes! They’re more conceptual than object-oriented, which is such a smart and refreshing way to approach design.

Another thing that adds instant coolness is when the house looks cool even when it's a bit messy. And I don't mean that objects were placed to make it look undone/messy like a new construction house tour 😂. I mean when even the mess looks pretty because the owner's objects and house is so curated to their specific taste.

I just got this recommended and immediately subscribed. I like the way you manage to verbalize and concretize ideas that, at least for me so far, only existed as a gut feeling. Just a small technical recommendation: I think a better microphone situation, even just a DIY solution such as the old "lavalier-mic-in-hand meme" (like Noah Daniel does, for example), would greatly improve the quality of your videos with relatively little effort. But in terms of content, I think you're already great. Looking forward to future videos!

A very sculptural plant in a room, and that's the only plant. Something extremely utilitarian and designed well that you actually use for a hobby. I'm thinking a typewriter you use, a tool box, a sewing machine, etc. Controversial, but deciding to not have a rug or coffee table. Not matching metals or wood tones.

I think when people have areas of their house that are friendly to explore or interact with. Like if they have a nook with cool books out or even a cabinet with different curiosity type arts or objects to check out, that's really cool. A little space for visitors to get lost in or relax and muse or tinker. The best. This is different than having similar items in a central area of a living space. It's nice when it's kind of off to the side in some way.

For me it's when people come up with elegant and intentional solutions for space or structural constraints. The most recent example I can think of is when I was watching a home tour and the designer wanted her 12 year daughter to have a dressing table in her bedroom but there was no space so she just put a floating shelf over the radiator that holds a mirror, some lipglosses and a few things.

I’m so glad KZitem suggested your video! I’m not an interior designer, but I’m currently designing and building a house and I feel super validated after watching this video because it appears I’ve been making many of the “cool” choices you mentioned (I even had some of your reference images already saved on my Pinterest lol). You’ve gained a follower and I’m about to go watch all of your videos ❤

I went thru and watched all of your videos after finding this one and I wanna say that I really appreciate your insight and opinions. They are fresh and well thought out (coming from someone who watches mainly interior design youtube). I'm so excited for what you have planned for future videos :) While you've said you're on a budget and I imagine this means you have a lot less freedom with your design choices I'd love to see a tour of your apartment and hear your reasoning/vision. I love seeing attainable, lived in, realistic homes! Especially in this economy lol

enjoyed ! I love your point about being honest with your space and what your working with. similarly i think its cool when people are honest about the function of their home and the items in it but setting it up in a really cool intentional way, rather than trying to conceal and overly curate everything.

Ha! I clicked on this and it is out of my usual interest. I'm at the end of divorce and have settled into a home that is just plain. Only cool thing about it is that it is surrounded by woods and I have a fully enclosed patio. Drives my mom nuts that all the walls are white and 70s looking. All I need is function right now and I'm good. Someday maybe. Interesting video though...

oh I love this so much - agree with all of it, ESPECIALLY lighting! My signs of a cool person/home are; 1. actual art (handmade, not repro) of any kind, bonus if there's a theme or collection.. 2. musical instruments around the home (but you must know how to play them, don't be a poseur).. 3. quirky, curated collections & not just stuff you can 'add to cart' but like legit items that took years & voyages to find. I once had a client who'd collected thousands of matchbooks from every restaurant, hotel, club they'd ever been to & displayed their top 100 faves in a plexiglass box frame 🤌magical
