OMG! Thank you for this. I graduated from grad school last Spring and opened a private practice last summer. Running a business has me feeling like a BIG adult!! By the way, I'm 48 y/o! 😆

Congratulations! Such a HUGE milestone. I feel you though, life comes at you fast like 🫨 I'm 33 and I still feel like I'm playing pretend adult -- until my tax bill shows up 😂

@@hallease I'm not too concerned about my age. I aim to keep accomplishing goals until I physically or mentally can't. My next goal is to start ballet or jazz classes once I fill my practice. I'm pretty youthful at my age and love it. I believe it keeps me open to experiencing new things.

Apparently, it's this spirit of curiosity that keeps you "young" according to studies and such

I am currently diving head-first into doing *just* this. Circumstances at the moment forced me to think seriously about this starting at the top of this year and the questions I started asking are ones you answered. Very serendipitous I came upon this video!

This is similarly how I operate with the exception of being a W2 employee! LOL! This year I'm working more with tax pros and setting better financial goals with digital products and nutrition education classes!

I had to circle back... i'mma check out that UPS mailbox, I currently have USPS. Also, How much does being married (spouse with a W2) or not assist you with the business decisions that you make around your finances? I'm single and I always imagine I'd have "move differently" with a W2 spouse!

He's definitely my unofficial executive board, for sure. I discuss a lot of business decisions with him but ultimately it is my decision. If I were single I would have started working for myself a lot sooner because all of my decisions would only affect me.

You are so inspiring and transparent. W2 worker here. And yeah I like that I don't have to do all the back end and front end stuff. It's alot. I have a sole prioperitor business but it's on pause until I can get back on track

YES! Run the numbers and please PLEASE don't forget about paying frigging taxes. Thank you for making this video, so glad to see more and more creators being honest about what they pay themselves, agents, lawyers, stylists whoever whatever. OR even if something is not paid for with money but time and expertise, a favor for a favor. Good luck to everyone in 2024!

Great points. Cash flow and payment terms are important details to think about when working with clients. Do you have enough money in your business to keep things going if a client (or clients) pay net 30/60/90 or later?
@hallease
8 ай бұрын
Exactly! People don't realize this going from W2 where you're generally getting money twice a month to contract where there are peaks and valleys in payments. Also, I side-eye any client that tries to pull net 90. The most I've ever allowed is net-45
