Pharmacies in the US usually have a mini grocery store attached! You can get food (usually not much fresh stuff, though, more like snacks or frozen food. Sometimes wine.), toiletries, makeup, holiday decor, greeting cards, and really almost anything you could ever want.

In university it's pretty uncommon to see people in leggings and sweatshirts. Drug stores in the US are convience stores first (mini-Walmarts minus the clothing and furniture) and pharmacies second. While you may not have dozens of options in each category like a normal American store, they have pretty much every category of product you could want when you're swinging by to pick up your prescription: folding chairs and flowers/pots in the summer, ice salt and shovels in the winter, copious amounts of candy/chips, milk and frozen/packages dinners, coffee/tea/wine/beer, cleaning supplies, body consumables (makeup, hair products and accessories, pads, intimate stuff, basic socks, etc.), household consumables (lights, batteries, pens/pencils, notebooks, charging cables, headphones, etc.), random things to distract/bribe sick kids (board games, puzzles, and other random toys)...I think that's it. The pharmacy section also has the usual vitamins, bandaids, medical supplies, pain killers, etc. but that's maybe 1/6 of the aisles (though the pharmacy itself and room for shots is usually like 25% of the total footprint of the store, not including the medical aisles).

@dianes5762
11 ай бұрын
Okay, let's be honest about the packages and why they're really hard to get in Italy. They either get stolen by postal workers or taken hostage by the postal system, like $200.00 "tarrif" for the recipient on a lightweight 10" package that had the shipping paid for in full when sent. This is why most online resellers refuse to ship to Italy.

If you are tall or big, pack lots of clothes, Italians are small and even when I wasn't having problems with weight, I struggled to find anything that was even large enough so I could try it on. I am 1,75 tall and most Italians are at least 15 cm less tall.

I would recommend checking online before assuming you'll be able to buy clothes or any kind of specialty products locally. Sweden is the only place I've been besides the US where I could buy women's shoes in a store. And forget about bras... How available are plus size clothes in Italy these days? Or African hair products? Both things a friend of mine struggled with when she lived there (but this was many years ago, so it may be different now).
@idek7438

Both are not commonly available in my experience. My former roommate had very curly hair (she wasn't African though) and she got her hair products from Amazon because they were hard to find in physical stores.

Granted I live in a big city in Italy, I don't shop in fancy stores and I live right above a big daily street Market, but there are bunches of places to get plus sizes, bras and shoes. I believe african hair products are pretty abundant as there is a huge migrant population here.

Not true. Plenty of people don't dress up in Italy. I've been to Italy twice. This whole thing about Italians dressing up is a myth just like you saying you need a car in Sicily. Most people dress comfortably casual in Italy and you certainly don't need a car in Sicily. Sicily has excellent public transportation as does all of Italy.

@@Mongoose-ct6us In summer, yes. In very hot places (like Rome and Sicily), yes. And in very casual or low-class neighborhood, yes. If you're a tourist or if you are in any way going around a lot, and in summer. But not if you go to the city centre, believe me. I live in Rome, I know what I'm talking about. In the city centre the only ones wearing shorts and t-shirts are tourists, be them italians or foreigners. Now, on the other hand, if you go where I live (Aurelio-Boccea, Pineta Sacchetti and Primavalle) there are a lot more people wearing casual attires (and there are a lot more immigrants too, so people not sharing the same italian obsession for "dressing to the occasion").
