@@daughteroftheking2200 - it’s funny you said that, in our case it’s 100% true. We have 5 daughters. They had 11 kids between them. First in ‘93, the last in 2010. We were the babysitter. One night a daughter called asking what we were doing for dinner, I replied nothing. She said great, we’re all going to Outback for dinner. I said good, I like Outback. She responded “I’ll drop the kids off at 6:30.” I was hurt. Another time...same daughter...asked me to sit her 3 year old and two month old. We were still working then, so I said don’t be too late, we get up at 6am to get ready for work. They never picked the kids up.....never called. We were up all night calling hospitals, frantic they were in an accident. We both had to call in at work, took a vacation day. At 11am she called. She said they got home late and decided to “LET THE BABIES SLEEP”, and went home to bed. I was beyond furious. Too many incidents like that, too often putting their hubby’s family first, never considering how they were hurting us. We eventually retired and moved 600 miles away in another state. Thanks for info. I'm from the Chicago area and it was my dream to live in Florida. Took me 30 years, but I got here. I checked out a lot of cities and landed in the eastern coastal area. I have always been a homeowner, but did spend several years in a condo. That taught me many lessons, mainly, not to live in a controlled environment ever again. I'm in a regular neighborhood, I prefer a mix of ages, don't want to be surrounded by "old folks" (I'm 78.8) the biggest advantage of living here is the affordability. Electric didn't go over $100 this summer, winters are $30-$40. Taxes went up to $560 this year. Oh my! I'm in a modest home, corner lot. I could never have afforded to retire in chgo area. The "winters " here are great, but the summers are getting hotter, for longer periods of time. BUT, I find that there is no real cohesiveness with neighbors, friends etc. Everybody is from some place else. There IS a difference between a midwesterner and a new englander. We really are different birds. I have lived here 13 years and I'm amazed that I want to move. I want to see real trees, breathe cool air, see big hills and not sweat for 6 months. I had considered the Villages, but houses are way too close, too many people concentrated in one area. I probably belong in the woods with 10 cats, 5 dogs and a goat. But I'm too old for that now. Kids, grands in N. GA, I pray I can get up there. I envy and respect your move from Indiana and your honesty about your decision. You are blessed to be enjoying your decision of relocation. Enjoy.

The nice thing about HOA's are they usually tend to try and keep the community looking nice which is why rules are put into place. My parents lived in Tavares and visited the Villages quite often. It was a more active community than where they lived down the road. They just moved to Las Vegas to be closer to my brother and I, and his kids. They live in a 55+ with an active HOA and the community is beautiful. May be cookie cutter to most, but you also don't have a row of neutral color homes and then one blazing purple or pink exterior colored home. Another with a broken down car in the driveway, or a camper/RV parked in the street. Just an opinion though.

I rode my bike everyday to the beach with my baby. She is now in her 30s. I think you should enjoy your life. I know family gets hurt but they need to understand it’s your life and you have a right to spend it the way you want. My husband and I cared for my father in law in our home for about 18 months. We had wanted so much to go on an extended vacation after a very trying time. But the day he passed away my father was diagnosed with cancer. He is now half way finished with chemo. And we see a Florida vacation in the near future. We will pass by the villages and we will get excited and wave. We think it’s beautiful at the villages. You are very blessed. Today. December 24th it’s 70 degrees in our little Tennessee town. We are usually in Florida the week of all the holidays. But not this year. It’s coming. And We will be at out time share going to the pool everyday and enjoying the sound of waterfalls by our condo. And then we can get our little share of Florida time in. God bless! Happy new year! I have lived in the Midwest all of my life. For those of you thinking of living in The Villages year round, I would suggest renting a home in The Villages for an extended time in the summer to see how you deal with heat and humidity. Yes, Central Florida is hot and humid in the summer, but you won't be dealing with ice, snow and 20 degree or colder temperatures either come December through March. When my friend bought her home in The Villages 7 years ago, buildout was scheduled to happen around 2016. Of course that is no longer the case. Good for those like me who have a few more years until retirement. Hopefully the expansion and growth of The Villages is well planned.

Yes, it's hot in summer but you adjust very quickly and now I can get cold when it's under 70! Also, few bugs! We do spray around the house but I've never been invaded by ants or any other insect. You hear about scorpions in the desert, but in 12 years I've never seen one. Yes, houses are built close to each other, but that has never been a problem as most everyone is respectful of others. We are close to a major city that has all that cities offer and 20 minutes away is enough to put you in the burbs/country.Also, I must add that the people of AZ are some of the nicest I've met anywhere, even the teens are polite and huggable. We live in a old/ new village....nice neighbours...lots of friends. Brilliant restaurants.. prices go up a bit in the summer. Can get a Menu Del Dai.....three courses for about five to 6 dollars. We have nothing to complain about at all. Good luck in your life...enjoy every minute. Oh we have a golf course near us of course.......just down the main road. Not really bothered. Too much else to do. Meet friends and entertain. Have a great time. Joy and Peter Jones....and Kinkie the puss....a rescue that just walked in!! Just stayed.

Thanks Jerry and Linda for being "negative". We just bought a designer home in Monarch Grove and even with the 25% property tax increase in Sumter county, we will still pay about $1000 less than we did for a similar value home in Central Ohio. And with the increase in population in that area, you want nice roads, schools, and safety service, etc. The taxes are on par with Lake county, especially if you get the Homestead discount. We're looking forward to living with all the "negatives" in The Villages! In a very positive way, of course!

Boo to wind chimes. Many people buy cheap wind chimes that are not tuned so instead of being lilting they clink and clank. Another pet peeve is they are never hung outside the owner,s bedroom but on the other side away near the neighbor,s bedroom. I think they are noise pollution unless you have sufficient acreage so others don’t,t have to hear them.

@@Golfzilla1961 That's a flat out LIE. I hate them because I live in one and have for the past 20 years. They have never done some of the things they promised to do in the community. I live on a lake in the county just outside the city limits. I OWN a beautiful home and keep it up, thank you very much. I don't blast loud music, I don't have broken down cars, or trash thrown about. My nearest neighbor is not next door, but 4 acres over to one side, 2 acres over to the other, no neighbors across the front side, and a lake behind me. Don't assume the reason for my hatred of an HOA. @chris brown Ours was enacted AFTER moving here to force every land owner to fork over 10s of thousands of dollars to work on the lakes among other things they were supposed to accomplish. They never enforce the laws on outsiders for trespassing even though signs are posted, but I have seen them quickly put a lien against someone over a couple hundred dollars. I could go on and on. I too hate trashy communities but an HOA isn't the answer. Oh and I have no pets.

But, there is no place I’d rather live, and the strict HOA covenants keeps our home prices stable, and in fact, steadily growing due to community desirability. Central Florida is as close to paradise as possible ...99% of the time😊!

I THINK this couple is talking about Florida in general, not just The Villages. And so, you can enjoy your privacy, or only be 22 years old and this vlog would be interesting to anyone moving here. Florida in general is a nice place to live, but it ain’t heaven on earth, no place is. Florida is hot, humid, sunny, crowded in places when it is Spring Break, Bike Week, etc. and, yes...when the Snow Birds return, the traffic is not only heavier but we have to consider senior citizens driving habits (face it and live with it) and web are very aware of it. If you are not, you might have a few fender benders. Never, ever assume a car is going to stop when the light is green for YOU. And, since our roads are forever changing it seems, some people return and think they know by landmark where to turn etc. and they don’t. We have to watch out for them as well, as you do for tourists in certain areas. I live in St, Augustine...BEAUTIFUL little city. In the last 26 years since we moved here because of work, the landscape has changed and changed and keeps on changing. It’s progress. This progress has given us multiple places to shop now, something we did not have back when... We take the good and the not so pleasant and consider...would I move because of any of this? Heck no, I love it here. But, don’t move here! I want this place all to myself. ❤️😉😂. Kidding, welcome neighbor!

I have called the PO to complain, they tell me they have sent someone to "watch" her. Right. When the PO was deregulated, it went to hell.

I absolutely despise wind chimes. Google “I hate wind chimes”. The problem with them is that you can’t get away from the sound and you have no control over it - other than asking the owner to remove them. They can disturb the neighbors down the block, and those neighbors can sit there and seethe, but not want to be confrontational. We live in a 55+ community in the SF Bay area, and we have no wind chime rule here. Our downstairs neighbor’s chimes were right below the window where I sleep and they would bang at 2 AM and wake me up. I finally had to talk to her. She took them right down. Better to put some inside and put a fan on them if you find them pleasing. Not everyone does, and just because one set of neighbors doesn’t mind them, others down the street might be driven nuts by them. (Just one cranky person‘s perspective… :)

Crickkett75 “well made” as in tuned? It definitely helps if they aren’t out of tune for those of us with a good sense of pitch, but they still can invade one’s private space. I could hear our neighbor’s in every room of our 1700 sq ft condo. Luckily she was very understanding and took it right down and it didn’t cause a rift, but there’s a neighbor down the block with three on her balcony (including a clanging cowbell!) who refused to for her next-door neighbors. So they can really make for bad neighbors, the same way you wouldn’t tolerate someone blasting their stereo and ruining your right to quiet enjoyment.
