You’re a natural at homesteading just watching you. Sorry to hear you lost your flock. That happened to me 4 years ago and I am just now starting to rebuild. I may try to winter hatch. I’ve only hatched a couple of eggs myself.

Cool description for the turning mechanism. Fun to watch. -- Anyway, I hope that you continue these. I like the educational piece today. (but I like the animals too, this was just a good indoor-day activity to watch!) 14 degrees F today.....-10 C......frozen. (with sun, no melt)

Very well explained. I just lost 2 Chicks because the ones that hatched kept rolling the remaining eggs around. Temperature and humidity was hard to maintain anyway. I tried a sponge to increase the surface of the water but after 24 hours I had to take the first hatched chicks out an candeled the remaining ones which where alive but couldn’t break the air pocket nor the shell. I opened them on day 23 two days after the others hatched and two of them didn’t have their yolk sack drawn in who died the same day, one was fully developed and is still alive. Would you have done ay differently? Waited til day 25 with an unopened air pocket ? Or rescued at least some ob them?
