Indeed. With electric there is almost always a performance per dollar compromise but you do get benefits for that compromise. Critically maintenance. The long term cost of ownership is far lower for an electric. Even when accounting for that battery swap and additional upfront cost out of the gate. Upfront cost is a pretty hard barrier of entry but it is more fair to compare electric bikes performance wise to bikes that are cheaper. Comparing a 6,500 dollar EV bike to a 6,500 dollar ICE seems fair until you consider the maintenance cost, at which the ICE absolutely flies (cost wise). What I am getting at here is that when you compare EV and ICE bikes of equal upfront cost you are actually comparing a cheaper thing (EV) to a costlier thing (ICE).
@deanr125
Жыл бұрын
@@SirNarax The long term cost of lets say a 125cc scooter is not that high… I ride a Honda SH125i (model year 2020) for 8.000 miles / year and my scooter needs a service at the dealer every 4.000 miles or every 6 months for about 120 to 150 dollar for every service he gets. So that’s not that expensive 👍🏻😉
@SirNarax
Жыл бұрын
@@deanr125 Absolutely and that is a pretty good comparison. This is exactly what I was saying you should be doing and not comparing to a bike with an MSRP of 6,500. at 4,000 miles every 6 months and 150 dollars a service that'd make your Honda catch up in 7 and a half years. Not accounting of course for the price of gas/electric and the fact that maintenance of an ICE becomes more expensive the closer it gets to death. In 7.5 years the battery of an electric bike will probably start to noticeably decrease in capacity so maintenance costs would favor the ICE comparatively. However in that 7.5 years at 100 average miles per gallon at 3.50 dollars a gallon you will be spending 12,000 dollars on gas. Electricity isn't free either but it is more difficult to calculate how much it'd cost to charge the bike. But unless you live in a place where electricity is ordinarily expensive you can be certain the it won't cost that much. This is still a very expensive electric motorcycle though even being fair with its' comparisons which comparing this to a 125 absolutely is. You did what I was saying you should do with an electric bike. That Honda while being a little more expensive in the long term will have a better range, storage and is more performant. Also side note: nice bike. I really wanted a Honda SH125 when I saw it was coming out but I don't think they brought it over here. I am a little too tall for those types of scooters anyway though. If i got another scooter to replace mine it'd be a maxi scooter of some kind.

Ok.. sooo when does someone make a T-shaped, extra large battery pack that's "non-removable", gives 150-200mile range at 35mph, with 450lbs payload (driver and whatever driver is carrying). But still make it capable of getting up to 50-60mph for say... 50-75miles with full charge full payload. Use 2.5kw or better motors instead of the 1.0s. Better suspension. Better brakes. With a 2kw(ish) charger unit running off 220VAC. For $10-15k usd. I'm keen on the idea of charging it from a solar equipped remote cabin. A run around bike, take it hunting, take it to cut wood (using a battery chain saw), use it as a dingy off the back of an RV for runs into town. Love how much brushless motors and their control units have advanced. Wish it was a little more motorcycle and a little less bicycle.

@@nathandalleave252 It has very limited appeal with 30 MPH. The Zero With a rack can hold just as much. The problem is where can you use it? Maybe a campground of where you ride a moped? It competes more with a Yamaha TW200 or Suzuki Van Van They are more like farm bikes, but both can do 60 MPH and get 70 + MPG. This is a cool bike but to pricey for most people. As cool as it is the 2 wheel drive isn't as valuable on a Motorcycle that you can easily lift up and move. Rokon makes these types of 2x2 bikes in 200CC Gas and can tow 2000lbs. I think it's more a comparison of a front wheel drive CRV and a 4 Wheel Drive CRV.

It is more fair to think of these as 2-4k bikes performance wise but with an upfront cost. Since the EV will be far cheaper long term. Not really fair to compare it performance wise to a equally priced ICE bike since the ICE bike actually is a far more expensive bike long term. It is still harder to buy just because that money will be saved later doesn't make that upfront cost go away. Easier to pay thousands in oil over years than pay hundreds today. And even comparing this bike to 2k-4k bikes its' performance seems shallow. There are EVs that can outperform it too (maybe not offroad though).
