Awesome video, very informative. Its sad to see the lack of work ethic being passed down from generation to generation. Thank you for saying all of this. Life standard goes up for everyone, just at a different pace. That is not how media is portraying the situation and how many perceive it. Instead, in their opinion the rich are the 'bad ones' who eat the cake of the others. This can't be true looking at the statistics. Our increased productivity and business activities allow for better health care, education and equality. We should change entirely the way we see the 'wealthy'. Wealthy people are the ones owning companies, they are the ones investing in new ideas and pushing for inventions that benefit humanity. All of the infrastructure we need for research and industry needs to financed by someone. So it needs those people who accumulate money because they are able to invest large sums into helpful projects which benefit everyone. The more we own, the more we can invest, the more we can put our creative potential to work.

The notion of "the rich are hoarding all the money" tries to look at money as only having one dimension "quantity", however it has another very important one "velocity", as in how often money changes hands. If a $5 note changes hands 5x, $25 of value had been realised. Water has the same dimensions, there is only so much water (or at a molecular level, there is only so much hydrogen and oxygen), however it circulates around the world. For those areas where there are ongoing draughts, there have been studies that show proper water management and retention practices keeps the water around and attracts more to stay over time - ironically money has the same principles.

The problem is that people define success as what they pocess. If we think success is having a more money to have a bigger house, have a better car, having more and more then yes the planet doesnt have enough resources for that.. the problem is that we think that something external will make us happy. So the idea is to find a way to be happy without being influenced by what happens around us. I think thats the real solution instead of focusing on an external problem like the system better to become aware on our internal happiness and how to become the master of our inner wellbeing.

Many great points and I agree with him 100% However, implying that the CO2 emissions are going up in China as a result of them being a recently communist country is just not true. China along with every other country that is increasing its standard of living is increasing its CO2 emission because of exactly that, increased standard of living. Which of course is a good thing in the long term. I guess the question becomes how to live comfortable while lowering emissions because keeping people in poverty is not a solution nor is it even possible. But as I said, I agree with him completely and I do not really understand why people are so eager to find scapegoats in terms of the "1%". It's especially ridiculous in a wealthy country where you belong to the 1% globally almost by default.

That's ALL you've taken from almost one hour of talk? A nit-picking factual inaccuracy? "Poland" has existed in various forms - kingdoms & republics - since about 966. Your historical source appears to be the fictional love story Titanic, a Hollywood movie dating back - Oooh! Look at that! - all the way back to 1997! Does anyone really doubt the centuries-long persecution of Jews and the reasons for their various migrations? Or the reasons for their success? I'm really sorry that you missed an interesting lecture, but, on the bright side, it's still available to watch again.

If you use Britain as an example, Douglas., then it may be good to point out that the Britain you are talking about is not the Britain of today (and not the Britain that people like Jacob Rees-Mogg want either). A good shopkeeper feeds and houses employees well because that benefits customers and turnover. A shopkeeper who forces employees to live in poverty and ill health is robbing himself as well but is too blind to see it.

I have to point out one things which is at one point you say that the bible says you can’t be cruel to animals. So you go on to say that you use this as your guide post - you are not cruel to animals but you do eat them. Well, let me just say. You are indirectly killing and torturing animals. You are being cruel to them, whether you like it or not. Just because it’s happening in a factory farm somewhere doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. And you have the wealth to be able to not have to eat meat.

Gross oversimplification and misinformation at 12:25. Sure Britain didn't loot South American gold themselves, they had privateers do it under a banner of deniability. They didn't just "grow human capital ", unless of course he is referring to slavery.

A very limiting religious construct that was designed to coerce the peoples faith for the Church, the bible states: "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you". However, the original intention of this statement was not about being faithful to the Church for good things to happen in our lives, ..it was said to teach Humanity that, "believing and living with great emotion in out hearts, that which we want to materialize into our world will indeed materialize". What we want ..is not the words we use, its the Emotion projected from our Hearts.

Good talk. The one bit I'm not sure I agree with is about creating wealth vs a finite pool, because we are now learning that the Earth's resources are limited, there is only so much land, we can't keep dumping waste in the oceans etc. What we used to think of as infinite were actually things that were comparatively large. Only when industrialisation grew to the point that these resources could not be treated as though they were infinite did we run into problems. There are many ways in which are human needs are not being met, but they now tend to be psychological rather than physical, or a combination. People who used to live in poor communities at least had a community, now people are forced to move for casual jobs and meaning is taken out of life. Communism would solve these problems... after a period of genocide. With AI and increasing automation perhaps we can have a capitalism 2.0 where humans are seen as more valuable than doing minimum wage jobs - but we still need people to care for us in hospitals and schools, if we are all running our own businesses, who is doing the skilled worked, who is taking care of the old and infirm? Fewer people seem willing to be an employee now because of wealth inequality and lack of job security (which seems to be the point of being an employee rather than risking starting your own business), that ocean of labour that business owners rely on will one day dry up. The closest I've come to a solution, that avoids genocide, is co-operatives or partnerships, where skilled workers part-own the business and we restore loyalty, pride of ownership, stability and community without huge inequalities.

I don’t think he is right about buying a house and that is a liability! Yes, you pay the mortgage on it every month, but you can write-off part of the mortgage interest and property tax payments. Plus, when you sell the house, you make a profit on the equity. If you do the math, your own house becomes a profitable investment wherein you are in control!
