Welcome back, Richest fans! Located in the heart of London, England, sits a unique building. Nicknamed the Walkie Talkie, the office block 20 Fenchurch Street created a mixed reaction when it was first opened in 2014. Especially after the building caused a heat ray that melted cars and fried eggs below. But that didn’t stop it from being sold for a fortune in 2017! Today, we’re going to look at this fascinating property. We’ll see its construction history, the problems in its design, as well as the features within the walls. Including the multi-floor Sky Garden.
Now for the spoiler paragraph. If you like surprises, we suggest you stop reading and watch the video multiple times. We start off by looking into where it is exactly and the legend of the building that was there before. Then, we dive into the construction history and the work by architect Rafael Viñoly. After that, we’ll examine the heat ray phenomenon in detail and how the developers worked to solve that problem. But there’s also the wind tunnel effect the Walkie Talkie caused! We’ll then explore the features within. The Sky Garden even offers various events. There’s also several restaurants and bars on the top floors. Some of which are incredibly expensive. We’ll then see why the developers decided to sell the property and who picked it up. At the time, this made it the most expensive office block sold in London! Finally, we’ll briefly see who might be taking that crown soon, the building of 100 Bishopsgate.
