It's hard to fault Lee Iacocca for any moves he made in the 1960s - fresh off the success of the Mustang and newly promoted to Vice President of Ford cars, he wanted to make Lincoln profitable and compete with Cadillac in the new Personal Luxury Car segment. The Mark III was his answer.
It worked. The car was a sales success, and through intelligent replatforming, turned Lincoln from red to black, fueling a resurgence of the brand that would last for decades.
