Love your video! I was told that the reason the pub is called the sheep's heid was because Mary Queen of Scots stopped off there and was treated so well that she gave the landlord a gift of a giant snuff box made out of an actual sheep's head embellished with silver and gems (sounds horrific, but apparently it was a tasteful gift back in the day). The landlord was so proud of the gift he promptly changed the pub name to the Sheep's Heid. I didn't believe the legend, but the old owner showed me the actual Sheep's Heid snuff box! Yup, it was pretty creepy to look at. It was a ram's head with amazing giant curly horns with two whopping amethysts set into the horn ends with silver. A thick, ornate silver lid on top of the head hinged open to allow access to the snuff. This was 25 years ago. Has anyone else heard the legend or seen the sheep's heid since? I wonder where it is now....? Can anyone solve the mystery of the sheep's heid? Lots of love from Edinburgh
