It really is interesting to think about. All of the other series I have seen that pay homage to Jojo in some capacity do it in the most respectful way. My mind was kind of blown seeing how little the writer changed in the story haha. Thanks for watching!
@cherre2080
Жыл бұрын
If you watch the Kimba video by YMS he kinda goes into it. If I can paraphrase it it basically comes down to the experience. If the thing that is “paying homage” gives you the exact or near exact experience it can definitely be considered a ripoff. If it shares similarities but offers a different experience it’s basically fine as an homage. You can look at jojo as a great example of how hommage is done well. Early jojo looked a lot like fist of the North Star but gave a very different story. A lot of the poses are taken from fashion pictures but the outfits are changed and they’re never an exact copy and they serve a different purpose. Then we have the obvious music references. Example: crazy diamond is a clear reference but no one would argue that a stand having that name would give the same experience as listening to that song. Obviously it’s way more complex than all this and legally it would probably have to be assessed on a case by case basis. But it should give you some idea what the difference is

While JoJo was heavily inspired by Fist of the North Star (artstyle of P1-P3), Kinnikuman (Road Roller) and other popular series during the 80, the Fighting Spirit is an innovative way of fighting created by Araki himself. That's why a lot of popular series today have similarities to JoJo like Hunter x Hunter (Nen/Hamon), Demon Slayer (Elemental Breathing/Hamon, Demons/Vampires), Shaman King (Spirits/Stands) etc. In a way, JoJo completly changed the way of making strategic battles where there is no needs to actual training and need of strength to fight new villains and no need of actual power level. That's why Araki, with this, became the most influential mangaka of all time.

Theres an old cartoon called visionaries, knights with some tech summon spirits to fight for them with various abilities, came out in the late 1980s but was actually pretty cool for the time, i doubt araki first came up with the concept of fighting spirits, wacky powers and definitely not overly manly men kicking ass but he puts it together in a fantastic way

The creator of Diesel should've done what the Wachowskis did with Ghost in the Shell. They copied the cyberpunk setting and even used some of the scenes from the anime, but they had an original story that could stand on its own, when they made the Matrix
@aydinbiber7616
Жыл бұрын
I have an original physical copy of this in a top loader. One of my most prized possessions. Wish the guy used his talents for a more original work. It's fine to take inspiration from JoJo's, but some scenes are just 1:1 copies. I feel like the artist didn't read any JoJo's besides seeing the OVA and thought it wasn't as well-known so he could get away with it. That would also explain why there is literally 0 original thought in the comic besides the stuff he ripped from JoJo.
@TheLostCrsuader21
Жыл бұрын
Yo that is amazing lol. Honestly, it's kind of priceless if you're a Jojo fan, but it goes for almost $40 from what I've seen. I think the craziest part of this whole situation is that Weltjins copied the OVA so much that it even has the same problems it does. There's no proper introduction in the original six episodes of the OVA or in Diesel. You're just dropped into the world without any knowledge as to what is happening or why.

This dude ripped off more than Jojo. At 1:32 the guy who got hit on the right, his pose is totally copied from a scene from Masahiko Nakahira's Super Street Fighter 2: Cammy Gaiden manga, localized in America in 1994 by Viz Comics. Cammy was held hostage in a sealed room, judged the location and height of one of her captors and back-kicks the wall knocking the guy unconscious through a 2 foot thick wall.
