My ex and I used to collect every Full Moon and Troma movie we came across. We had this 10 movie set of every Puppet Master there is. We had the Trilogy Of Terror and I am pretty sure we Ragdoll as well. My ex passed while I was 8 months pregnant. So when I could I was able to acquire a bunch of the really terrible horror movies we'd watched/gotten together so when our son is old enough I'll introduce him to them as well, as if a small bit of his dad is still here with us. I can't wait to show him Dead Alive, which is one of the best ones I was able to get back.

Man, Full Moon Pictures has always had a special place in my heart. The Sci-Fi channel used to ALWAYS play marathons of their awful movies when I was a kid. I have a ton of memories of watching Puppet Master marathons with my grandfather because he also loved terrible, low-budget horror movies... Aside from the record label, Full Moon also tried getting in on the video game market by teaming up with October Games, who were making a fan-made "Puppet Master" game that is free to play on Steam... It's about as bad as you would expect from a "Puppet Master" game. But I love it.

I watched a decent amount of these and they became my favorite films. My grandparents owned a West Coast Video store during the 80s and 90s so I watched a lot of off-beat films and half were "for promotional use only" they will always hold a special place in my heart.

While puppet master is probably full moon's most popular franchise, the subspecies movies (at least the first couple since I haven't seen them all) are probably the best. Yes they are still cheesy vampire movies, but seeing as how they were filmed in Transylvania/Romania, the atmosphere is amazing. The first one at least is definitely worth a watch. The original version of Castle Freak is also by Full Moon. The fact that it stars Jeffrey Combs and has quite a few... uncomfortable moments while taking place in an Italian castle has earned it cult status.

Full Moon is fascinating company. I highly recommend Good Bad Flicks, the Cinemasochist, & the Horror Guru if your interested in seeing they're work covered alongside some history. They made a killing in swooping in to to serve the rental market hence why so many shell labels so they advertise they're products to different demographics without getting parents too upset. Charles Ban was also very quick to understand & embrace Horror & scifi conventions as well as pioneering using mini documentaries & behind the scenes specials for promoting upcoming projects. Of course that rental gravy train only lasted so long & several bad business decisions forced them to slowly restructure over the last decade. I prefer troma usually. When full moon is good you get cheesey good fun like the Ginger Deadman or puppetmaster, but when it's bad it's painfully boring. Like Roger Corman insisting on cheap & fast production you can grab young passionate talent, but the odds are just as likely you'll get people who have idea what they're doing. You should really do the Toxic Avenger Quadrilogy or Terrorfirmer. Maybe the Ghoulies if you want some easy riff fodder.
