Another issue with Wizz Air from a norwegian citizen point of view: I live in a northern city of Norway. Since the start up, they have failed to land five! times under a year. From january of 21, they have cancelled their trips until march, and reduced their frequency. At my closest airport, they use the same airplanes as SAS and Norwegian, and blame the conditions, while SAS and Norwegians lands on time, or before the schedule. Within my groups of friends, there is a joke "Fly with wizz, its a mystery where you'll land!"

The fund's investments are scrutinised, but rely on accurate and unbiased ESG-reporting (Environmental, Social and Governance). One such rating agency is Bloomberg, and they have given Hungary a high ESG score. The problem being this score is based on a government self-assessment. For instance you have a right to organise in workforce unions in Hungary, which increases score. As we have seen, the right to organise does not protect you from harassment, discrimination and termination. So Wizz air is ethical by Hungarian standards and ESG is does not weigh in other ethics.

As a Norwegian, I knew exactly what this was about just by reading the title of the video! It's not that we don't want Wizz Air. We just want companies operating in Norway to respect Norwegian labour laws and practices. To have a major company without a unionized workforce is unheard of; Even small companies with less than 20 employees are mostly unionized. A few years ago, Foodora (Norway's biggest food delivery service) denied its employees the right to bargaining powers. That ended in a three-week strike and a massive boycott. WizzAir calls our behaviour childish; fair enough. If it's childish to demand welfare leaves and employment security, you can call us childish all you want. However, I call WizzAir childish for suing local governments for boycotting them. Why did they sue? A public boycott is legal, but they sued because they "didn't give a warning before boycotting" -- like giving a heads-up would make WizzAir change anything.

I know many people hate on Wizz but its an amazing airline. Our market in Central Europe was ignored by traditional Arlines. Only Wizz, Ryanair and EasyJet operate regularly here. The working conditions are bad but Wizz brings the opportunity to fly to tens of thousands of people. But yes they shouldn't brute force their way into the Norwegian market.

@QWOP_Expert

@@snacksy7754 I am interpreting your comment to mean that this is a bad thing? If this upward mobility of the workforce were a bad thing there would be large amounts of unemployment in Norway. However, in reality, the unemployment rate in Norway is lower than in most other western countries, for example, the United States. The Norwegian labor force is more highly educated and/or specialized, meaning that most Norwegians do not want to do the jobs you described for low wages. This is not a huge loss, as those jobs are not very productive for society and the fact is that most adults are perfectly capable of packing their own groceries, parking their own cars, etc. This strategy obviously works as Norway has one of the highest standards of living in the world. The WizzAir strategy is a "race to the bottom" strategy, where profits are prioritized over quality of life. How anyone could interpret it differently is baffling to me.

Really good point, I remember having to go to Cluj Napoca in Romania regularly, first few times I flew Wizz from Eindhoven. Then I started looking elsewhere and have flown with Lufthansa and KLM from Amsterdam. With all the fees for luggage, getting to Eindhoven Airport instead of Schiphol Airport and a simple drink on board being 7 euro's the savings I made with Wizz was at most €20,-. For that €20,- with KLM and Lufthansa I got better seats, free food/service and way better staff both on the plane and on the ground, and some peace instead of a 3 hour long commercial. An all round better experience, where with Wizz I always left the plane stressed. I understand there is a market for cheap but Wizz sacrifices a lot of quality for clients and personnel.

Some companies love modern slavery but we are in Europe not in Bangladesh. Here employees have rights. If companies want to operate in a country they should respect all laws, no matter where the employees come from. If they can’t bring that up and wants to treat there personnel as serfs then no license should be granted. Inland flights should also always be manned by local personnel. It is time that in the 21th century companies are not only a capitalistic thing but also contribute to the local community. Some companies learned to combine the two, a lot of companies still behave like buccaneers. Want that is what is company does, taking away local jobs (so higher unemployment benefits) and lower tax income (because of higher unemployement). And who pays that ? Indeed the same people who are offered cheaper tickets. This backlashed double.

Union's here in Scandinavia have another role they often support you with Union Pay if you are sick, laid off or fired unfairly. Most unions are pragmatic and have a good working relationships with the business they represent and never would support pay rises in situations where it's not justified and even support businesses accepting flexible ways of working and pay in hard times. It's very much quid pro quo. This service is not free and you pay often directly from your monthly salary to the Union. Many rightfully see it as an insurance over any state support you may get in difficult circumstances.

The terms Eastern and Western Europe did not come from Geography but Political ideology. Capitalism was West, Communism (now former Communist i.e. those behind what 'the West' called the Iron Curtain) was East. There is no Central Europe in that definition. As time goes by, no doubt more Geographically appropriate descriptions will prevail.

Personally i consider Poland as eastern european country in all factors, It has gorgeous women;) But you polish guya most stop this inferiority complex. Not everything in the west is soo good. Almost all families in the west is completly broken. Houses are so expensive, that you will be tricked into paying it off rest of your life! (Which in the old days could have been paied of in 5 yrs by 1 salary, you know may need 20 years). Translation: most of the western workforce has become slaves without even realizing it. With families destroyed. And almost no chance of building a lifetime familybof your own. Is this really what you want?

Sure wizz air is cheap but let me tell you about my (limited...very limited..) experience with them: In 2018 I need to fly Lisbon to Warsaw and back. Wizz Air as 100€ cheaper than old Lufthansa... So I considered Wizz... I couldn't take as much luggage... I would have to be at the airport at 1am and arrive at Warsaw at 6am and then wait untill I could do check in at the hotel, probably at 13pm and after being tired from the journey and ending up wasting a full day or more, as I would need to recover from the trip. Get back would be the same trouble with time tables and no space to carry home gifts that I would buy... Also, no onboard meal. For an extra 100€ I could fly with Lufthansa, have 2 onboard meals (yes... A sandwich, a drink and a coffe) in the inflights and 2 on the outflights, would take the plane at 13pm and arrive there at 20pm much more convenient, have all the nice Lufthansa on board service and had 20kg of luggage plus a 8 or 10 of carry luggage, so all that I need to come from Poland carrying all the cheap and quality vodka I wanted and still get some miles on my card. 100€ seems a lot, it was about 25-30% of the total cost. Which one did you think I choose?

The soveiregn fund is operated by independent workers. Norway government can not controll or interfere in where the fund invests. But if the company comes on certain unethical lists (gambling, war, etc), the fund is mandated to have to sell their stocks within unknown time. I This is to protect that no political parties will be able to abuse the money in the fund. Alot of regulations. And whizz air has not broken norwegian laws yet. They plan on it. And they will get faceslapped hard if they really tried.
