For me, it's weird that this video came out now......I was in Washington DC for the 4th of July and while we were walking around the National Mall, I said to my friends "I bet the fact that nobody carries cash anymore really hurts the homeless people's pockets". I live in East Tennessee (Knoxville) where we have SOME homeless people, but they are concentrated in really just one place. In DC, we came across them all over the city. People standing at intersections with signs, people on corners with cups asking for your change, people sleeping on benches and on under trees. The fact that people don't really carry cash anymore, i would imagine, has really made it harder on the homeless to collect money. I'm weird......i can watch something like this and feel empathy for homeless people, but when I see them on the street, I typically do not have empathy. I guess it's being able to hear their stories in video's and not being able to hear them in real life that makes the difference. I typically just feel like I am getting scammed when people come up to you on the street. Instead of standing outside a McDonald's all day collecting change, they could stand inside and make money by working. I am aware that some have mental problems and cannot hold a job.....and i sympathize with those people.....I really do. But it makes it hard to feel sorry for some of those who are fully capable of helping themselves but just don't. I would be more willing to give someone money if they had a job (even a remedial job) and need a little extra because they are short on rent or whatever. I truly am conflicted in this sense. As the richest nation this planet has ever had, it is a shame that ANYONE here should be on the streets, hungry or without life's essential requirements. IDK if they are still around, but there used to be self sustaining prisons in Texas......There should be housing built on that premise. Self sustaining housing (for homeless). They grow food, cook, clean, mow, fix stuff, etc. Maybe you have 10 or so people there to oversee what they do and to help them learn their job. There has to be a better way of doing what we are doing now......which appears to be nothing.
@thetechprincess2433

Maybe in person your feelings change so much because first of all you have to be focused on traffic whether you're a pedestrian or driving and second of all you need to focus on what you are out doing in the city and third of all if you're out on business or work you are probably mentally preparing or thinking about work and need to remain in a work mind Poker Face and lastly I think that no matter what seeing homeless people in person is emotionally disturbing and then we can also think about ourselves as that person in that situation and that's where we get the empathy from I think it's a psychological way to protect yourself by not feeling so bad for them when you see them in person because you're in survival mode and not to mention some of them are aggressive and have diseases which we should be afraid of

Our goal is not to police people on how to use the resources given to them, but rather that every dollar spent would be in the context of a positive relationship with a counselor and/or with samaritans. It sounds like she is intentionally homeless, she says she doesn't trust offers of food, money or housing, which suggests that those offers have been made to her in the past. Although many comments slate her for buying an unnecessary and expensive coffee which is half of her days budget, that money can only be spent at certain places rather than on drink/drugs. I get the feeling she may be manic with her spending habits normally, so this is a form of budgeting. Having said that, my concern is the possibility that this money is used in addition to other forms of begging for cash which can then be used to buy drink/drugs, while having Beacon to buy essentials. App could also discourage from finding proper paid work.

I'm actually not homeless. I do indeed live in a 1 bedroom apartment in Downtown Seattle for $1204/month that's not including bus fare, food expenses, baby expenses, ECT. Not everyone who gets a Beacon is homeless. JS

Danielle Peart If you watched video it said it was for the homeless, but you’re just a scammer like most poor and stupid people who want money but don’t really want to do anything to earn it.

She doesn't even want to 'work' to beg for money by standing on the corner- the app is easier and she doesn't even have to croak a 'thanks, and God bless ya!' for people's charity.

Along with the Keychains, provide them with Shirts and Beanies that say "I Accept Samaritan" Marketing is always horrible with start-up companies, once they profit, is as if their brains shut down and they can't find any more ways to become successful until they read a youtube comment.

What's going to stop a cash strapped middle class person from posing as homeless just so that they can get free meals? The cost of living is very high in Seattle. It says that homeless shelters screen applicants but how much can they really research?

3 things stand out here. 1. Lady getting Coffee, doesnt look like a cheap coffee place to me - at least 5 bucks for a mocha. 2. Lady getting a haircut - probably not cheap either plus they can build in tips. 3. The shaggy looking dude seems like a normal dude, i could be wrong but looks like he could "work". Seriously this thing is flawed.

This is the most pretentious way of dealing with homelessness, ever. Instead of curing the city from corrupted partisan politics which happens to be the root cause of homelessness, why don’t we just give even more money to the homeless, via an APP. Trendy, huh?

Well, you see, rent actually costs way more than a phone. Also a smartphone is one of the items you can buy with the highest utility. Not that these people aren't making terrible financial decisions, but the phone isn't what we should focus on

@thetechprincess2433

Actually the worst place to donate your money is generally to any charity almost all Charities are corrupt in Seattle the main Charities are definitely corrupt for example the Seahawks still needed a whole bunch of signed autographed memorabilia and guess what it wasn't passed out after they left it was packed up and loaded into the staph scars and that's just one example they do the same thing with donations from other stores like Nordstrom they take all the brand new clothes and purses that are supposed to be giving out they still everything even steal food from the kitchen from Amazon Fresh deliveries pallets at a time so if you actually want to help a homeless person it might be better to just give it to them yourself these Charities and the people that work at them are not always good people there's definitely a mix of good and bad and there's definitely corruption within the system that's why there's still so many homeless people and they've figured out how to embezzle money to even higher level that's why you see some of these directors of these so-called Charities driving around quarter million-dollar cars it was not afforded on their salary trust me there's many ways to steal from a charity including and mostly being able to lie on the paperwork and this is something that's been done by 401K is forever big reason how the church got a bad name
