The only thing about it that is Gibson like is the body shape. That rhomboid isn't owned by Gib. If the neck, scale, wood, electronics are all Dingwall, don't get distracted by the shape of the body.

@@carpediemarts705 It was literally designed and originally marketed as their version of a Thunderbird, not a completely original design that happened to be rhombus shaped. It was called the D-Bird lol. They only changed the body shape and name to avoid being sued by Gibson.

That's mostly a Darkglass amp/pedal thing. I use their products too, and I absolutely love how their style of distortion sits in a mix, but I'm not always thrilled with how it sounds soloed - especially on some of the higher notes.
@sidthebassist89

@@BelugaTheHutt that's quite common for tones that sit well in the mix. My personal tone is very aggressive and grinding by itself to the point of being almost too much, but very growly and full when accompanied by the remainder of a metal band. So I just sold my first bass recently and I'm looking at buying my second now. (My first bass was an Ibanez gio 5 string, loved the feel of it, but wasn't feeling the sound). I'm not getting something more expensive, I'm just replacing it. I'm trying ti make up my mind between two basses off of thonman. Thought maybe I could throw out a comment here and get some opinions between The Harley Benton JB-75 series, and their PB-50 series.
@nolanwitty4329
4 жыл бұрын
Its really just a matter of what sound you like. Out of the two the jazz bass would be more versatile and likely more comfortable neck wise, while the the precision bass will have a much for classic tone. I love the look of the PB thought, vintage classic.
@darkshadowlord321
4 жыл бұрын
@@nolanwitty4329 I love the look of both bases, kinda like the PB better visually cause it's classic but not common, and I think it would have an awesome tone for rock and stuff with some distortion it, but I think I outta go with the versatility since the basslines I've learned range from twentyonepilots to Slipknot

I'm 100% on the Dingwall bass train BUT a Gibson Thunderbird has a unique/iconic tone to it. this D-Roc sounds better and is more versatile (in my opinion) but I wouldn't be able to tell it was a D-Roc just based on tones.
@ronnybabiloni7478
3 жыл бұрын
Actually the Thunderbirds that have the strap buttons at the back of the neck does not really neckdive at all, but the D Roc has a better balance no question, but it had it's price: because of the neckjoint and the straplock you can't really access the upper frets 15+, or only in a tricky way. I can reach with a Tbird easier the higher frets although the body is not that ergonomic in any way. It's not really bad because usually rock/metal players have nothing to do in that register and in my opinion this slight inconvenience separates the bass from the absolute perfection. I'm really glad to have both basses!

I have a really battered Blackbird Nikki Sixx Gibson that has different strap lock positions and there is significantly reduced neck dive. I’m way too old for a Dingwall.

The sneaky trick no one tells you is that the bass has its upper strap pin right behind the neck heel, and requires Dunlop straplocks to work. It's an awesome bass, but I wonder if having your strap there impedes upper fret access.

It's not really a tuning thing, it's different scale lengths for each string which makes the tension even across all the strings
