To me Tomimiya was always chasing happiness and excitement without appreciating what he already had. He thought "becoming the leader" would make him happy but it wasn't fulfilling on its own so he lashed out. Togame should've stood up to him but instead just isolated him from everyone else further.

That's the whole point and that's what they say in the anime how's this a revelation. Edit: I'm sorry that I said all this I finished the video now I understand you were trying to get it through his bald head.

To me, Choji is a parallel to Sakura. Both of them are exceptional fighters and acrobatic. Choji is at the top and is unhappy, but on the surface, he is carefree and lively. But he is hiding the fact that he feels unfulfilled in life. He has hit a rut. Sakura on the other hand is trying to get to the top and just like Choji believes that being at the top and being the strongest will give him happiness. however, he shows an inkling of happiness when he is with the bofurin. On the surface, Sakura doesn’t want friends, but slowly accepts being around them. Choji forgets the one that made him happy is what Sakura is experiencing for the first time: camaraderie and brotherhood Ume didn’t fight Choji like another punk on the street, he treat ed him like a little brother that needed a scolding and roughing up.

I can confirm as a manga reader that this is true. We should see in the next few episodes what is also in the manga: Sakura himself realizing that Shishitoren and Chouji is a reflection of himself and what he would/could have become if he joined Shishitoren instead of Furin.

My favorite part is Choji's eyes throughout this episode. Showing us the when he gains the light back in them or when it was gone showing his mental state.

Agree same with choji and Togame because they both were hella strong in the past when everyone was happy but here in the present they were getting weaker but still strong but not as strong from the past so I hope in the future I get to see suo, ume, choji, and Togame get to go all out. In my eyes Togame win against MC. My only favorite characters is choji, Togame, ume, suo and ume

I love this story so much, they really captured sakuras and Chojis feelings of seclusion so perfectly that every time they show their inner monologues I felt like I was gonna get a panic attack 😂

I think the people who didn't like this episode as much wanted a huge all out fight, which I can't blame them since it was leading up to it, but while being mad about that they lose sight of what the show is actually about. The characters. Wind Breaker has amazing characters like Umemiya, who actually isn't all about fighting. He likes to help people and he saw just how close Choji was to his breaking point so he needed to push him to that point to actually help him. Of course he's still a great fighter but that's not the only reason why he's the leader of Furin. There will be more fights and character growth to come in the future.

I can confirm this as a manga reader. Umemiya did not become the leader because he was a great fighter-though he is a strong fighter-he became the leader because he had a goal in mind. Becoming the leader of Furin is what would help him accomplish his goal. It is from those roots that Umemiya has become the leader of Furin as it is today.

I think it's good that you pause. It's better to engage with the story, you'll get more out of it that way. I'm not a reactor but i pause to think about whats going on as well. Plus its way more satisfying if you somehow manage to guess where the story is going correctly before it gets there, you know? Either way, its way better than passively consuming the content and forgetting everything about it after watching it. I'll stop yapping now, just wanted to say I enjoyed the episode a lot, probably one of my favourite episodes yet and I enjoyed your reaction to it as well!

I think Choji's story is left vague purposefully. What I got out of it though is he was always depressed deep down. We don't really see the parents of anyone in this anime, but we can just assume from his VERY fragile mental state that Choji probably doesn't have a great home life. So he sets a goal, something that will make him happy. Something that will set him "free" from that darkness we see him wandering. But the friends he makes along the way do that before he ever gets there. So when he finally DOES reach his goal, and its nothing, he kinda breaks. This was supposed to be it. His big moment. The thing that gave him purpose and happiness. But its nothing except a pat on the back and a title. In his grief at the revelation, he forgets that just being with his friends was already pulling him out of the dark. He slips back in, and takes it out on others. He can't be the problem, he's the strongest. So it has to be someone elses fault he feels this way. So he starts beating everyone up to pin the blame.

That's what I said in past videos. People focus on the fight and liss the real intentions behind, it's not about fighting it's about helping and understanding others, fighting is the medium but not the key. That makes the hype for violence quite weird bc of that

He convinced himself that raising Shishitoren's strength would make things "fun" again, but he goes about it terribly, deciding that discarding the "Weaklings" would make the group stronger. But all it did was make others miserable and coldhearted. And slowly that zapped Choji of more of his happiness.

Umemiya didn't take seriously this match, his purpose was to redeem Tomiyama and he made it. I'm sure Umemiya's true strength and skills are yet to be seen.

the fact that you say Choji is Mikey literally what i thought when i watch this episode. Idk where i read about this, but the author says that they're making Wind Breaker because Tokyo Revengers inspired them. and after this episode, i am convinced shishitoren is Toman, Choji is Mikey, and Togame is Draken.

Imagine going from basically a no name grunt or low level employee to the one in charge and responsible for everyone that’s now under you - with no preparation or proper training for the position at all. I can tell you from a little bit of experience that it’s so much easier and freeing to only have to concern yourself with yourself over everyone else.

My interpretation of his arc is that he liked being relied on so he went to the top but at the top it just made him have a feeling of isolation And with that isolation he eventually went stricter to make the people around him stronger to deal with the isolation, him being stricter made him into a person he didn't like and doubled down on further pushing the people around him away and at a certain point he shelled up emotionally and got detached from reality and into a rut that was hard to him to dig out of

I disagree, but you are close. When Choji was not the leader, he was able to have fun, follow and hang out with his friends, do whatever he wanted. His belief is that the Strong are Free, and thus have the most fun. So he strived to be the strongest, the most free, to experience the most fun. But when he did that, he got to the top, became the leader... And there was no fun. He can't hang out with his friends anymore, he's the leader and needs to deal with leader stuff. He can't start fights anymore, he is the leader. He can't do anything, cause he is the leader, and not the follower anymore. But that clashes with his belief. The strongest, is the most Free, and thus Free to have the most fun. But he wasn't free anymore. He was stuck as the leader, and can't do whatever he wanted. Thus, he had a thought. If everyone was just as strong as him, they could all become "Leaders" aka the "Strongest" and could have fun together. So wanted a group full of the Strongest. But went stupid. Instead of training, teaching, or anything a leader 'Should' be doing. He just kicks out those who lose a fight, and only keep those who never lost, and thus are the 'Strong'. Choji is NOT a Leader person. He is a Follower. And when placed in a leader role, he was trapped, with no way out. So he made the new rule, enforcing his will as the Strongest. The group will only have the strong. If you lose, you are kicked out. Trying desperately to keep the strong around him, so he could Free to have fun with them. But it didn't work out, as we saw. Fun was no longer a thing. It was to keep getting stronger, or you are kicked out.

To me, Choji's story is about the human condition to always be moving towards a goal. Choji's goal, and the ethos of Shishitoren, was too shallow to be sustainable. They had a flawed understanding of what Power is and what it should be used for. Sakura and Umemiya reminded both Togame and Choji of that. Power is being able to push through with your will and not be distorted by the will of others, and it should be used to protect your happiness and those you love.
