For most people, buy the omd em5 for 150-200 euros. It is mostly the same, same sensor, same weather sealing, same ibis. Then put a nice wide aperture prime lens on it and maybe a do-it-all zoom lens for normal daylight use. Remember though, lenses are expensive.

there are quite a few Chinese 100% metal manual lenses, even with f 0.95 for 300 dollars, not to mention that the Olympus entry level range is very good, f 1.8, or that the zoom kit is more than enough. but yes, a good lens for that camera

I got an EM-5 and the Olympus menu system is byzantine. Just making it so I could flip a switch between manual and auto focus required creating two profiles and then manually assigning profile 1 and 2 to different positions of a switch on the camera, - to do what Panasonic already gives you a dedicated switch for.

My g7 broke at the mount so I had a wobbly lens. And its autofocus is horrible. But it served me well and took me a long way. Olympus is the better option. I have an em1 mk2 I got for the same price as my g7 and it is WAY nicer.

Yes. Correct. Both have 4/3 sensors. The difference is that Micro 4/3 has shorter flange focal distance, allowing smaller lens sizes and more versatility as it add adaptability to older 4/3 lenses.

Whats the advantage that such a camera gives you over just using your phone? Most phones nowadays have a camera with a similar or higher megapixel count and have better software available due to yhrm having massive amounts of compute power. Most camera apps are also able to give you raw files, so im genuinely curious, whats the advantage that this camera has?
@ThePipton

A few months ago I started with photography and before that I had the very same feeling. Here are some points that I figured out: 1. For some reason the colours and the way the pictures look are very pleasing to the eye. 2. Unless you are a heavy post cropper megapixels dont do that much. Most phones downsample to the 12-20mp anyway. A sharp 1080p picture for the web is 2.1mp. 3. Control. You mention computing power, because you probably will use lightroom you have a lot more control, computing power and because it is seperate from your camera it will always be up to date allowing even old cameras to flourish in this generative ai world. 4. Interchangeable lenses. Phone cameras mostly have to limitations. No changing of the aperture and no optical zoom. The first is useful to adapt to different lighting situations and to create better bokeh. The second plays into the no cropping preference because you can adjust your focal length to the situation so you'll have the most megapixels available. A relatively cheap zoom lens has a 10x zoom factor, to my knowledge no phone has that.

For photo only it has literally every (Basic) thing you need: 5axis Ibis, weather seal, quick af, single point tracking, evf, two dials for exposure, 16mp sensor, 9fps continuous drive shooting, low shutter lag, and an interesting colour science and photo mode for jpgs. For a hobbyist like me who brings camera out every day it does its job real fine. Downside is your phone probably shoots better video than this camera. And yes I’m still using it nearly every day along with my other camera.
