I am so psyched to see that other people adjust down to the samples in their DAW. For someone who records solo, I end up manually moving all of my channel tracks by hand to match the snare, so latency won’t be an issue when overdubbing other instruments!

Hey man. Pretty interesting video. Just remember that there is no such thing as perfect phase while using multiple (different)mics. And that phase inconsistencies can actually sound awesome, and are a big part of reverb/ambience. Have you heard of the 3:1 rule? I think all aligning just the kick mics or just the snare mics to each other can be really useful. But aligning it all to each other takes away some of the vibe. Just my humble opinion. Your drums sound great either way. Keep up the great work!

Totally agree on all points! Most of your points are either implied or mentioned very briefly in the video here, but definitely glossed over for the sake of palatability. The topic of phase relationships is a deep rabbit hole that definitely deserves more than a 10 minute video, so maybe I'll do more in the future. 3:1 rule would be a great one to include next time, that's definitely some fundamental audio engineering 101 stuff, and something I always include when teaching recording classes. Aligning vs. not aligning for vibe is 100% valid, but totally a case by case basis sort of thing. Without hearing any tracks if someone asked me for aligned vs. unaligned tracks I'd always take aligned. Thanks for your comment!
