After more than a month enjoying the charms - and surprises - of Arizona, we were off to New Mexico on our "A Year On The Road" RV adventure, and that meant a new state for both of us. And new surprises, like the Gila National Forest's Catwalk Recreation Area. Come for the history - the area dates back to 1893 and a sudden gold, silver and copper mining boom - and stay for the amazing Catwalk that replicates a similar structure used in the Whitewater Canyon's mining days. This elaborate steel walkway is woven through the canyon for half a mile and provides a breathtaking overview of this intriguing waterway. Hidden pools, splashing waterfalls and massive rock walls are all in evidence and made sure our New Mexico explorations were off to a flying start.
