I found a pokemon card at school one day. No clue whose it was or where I came from but everyone was walking over it so I grabbed it and put it in the clear part of my binder. In lunch a special needs kid named Scotty came by and got excited and wanted it. I let him have it and he walked around with that card for the next 3 years of high school and he never forgot about me. He never knew my name but he knew I gave him that card and every time we passed in the hallway or something he would just hold up the card and say thank you. You never know what will mean the world to those kids

Hello, as an autistic person, it can be very degrading to refer to an autistic person as a person with autism, as most autistic people see it as part of their identity, since saying “with autism” can make it seem like something like a sickness or disease. As someone with high functioning autism (used to be called Aspergers Syndrome) I can attest to the joy that you feel when you feel included on something that you didn’t necessarily think you would Sometimes even if you wouldn’t have wanted to experience something normally, just the fact that you know others may disallow you to experience it can make you crave it This young man was blessed by a caring young woman who was raised the right way Kudos to her for going against what society says and doing what she really feels she wants to do, instead of holding back because others might associate her with someone embarrassing I’ve found those people are the only ones worth relying on and have built a strong and happy life around people like her In the process, somewhere down the line, people started to forget I had autism at all and new people don’t believe me until I explain what exactly it is

Why would she have to state she is a “cheerleader” as if that means popularity. It’s not like that anymore if your a cheerleader…and then why mentioned he is “special needs”.. why couldn’t it just say “asking my friend out to prom” why put labels on either of them to set the “status” of each of them. If she video for their own memories fine, but The fact that she even posted the video with indicating their “labels” is indirectly having the perception she is “seeking attention” for doing “good” . Otherwise the video would say “asking my good friend XYZ to go to the prom” The roles they have in HS should not matter in a video like this. If she truly sees past his Autism. It’s irreverent to even mention it for the simple nature of just the excitement he has for being asked by a good friend. Period.

I am so proud of him and so grateful for the kids that showed him kindness and take the time to get to know him and his heart. @@TTV_Fyx like honestly what is “different ability”? That’s an excuse to lie to people. Autistic people think inferior. And people don’t want to make them sad out of pity so they lie in their faces and spoil them with fake love and support. This may or may not be the case for him but 99.9999% of the time it’s fake. Trust me I fucking know how the game works. 17 years of straight pity. Even my own family pity’s me it’s that pathetic. So don’t try and make us better by saying excuses like that. Give me the hard fucking truth. That’s ALL i’m asking. I don’t want a beautiful lie you’ve been shoving down our throats since fuck knows how long! Treat me like a real human not some worm incapable of thinking straight… I won’t take the pity any longer. Or any support for that matter because it was never real, genuine support in the first place. So cmon… quit lying to yourself. You know you are. While every generation has it's differences, they aren't getting worse. It's an illusion we've fallen for for hundreds of years. In fact, one of the oldest written texts was complaining about "today's generation". We'll be just fine.

@keemochee first of all, I'm from this generation too. I don't agree. Second of all this generation is barely even adult, meaning that 90% percent of our behavior is caused by the previous generations who raised us. So how does that make sense. I've have this discussion multiple times and any answer I get is "nah it is" without any arguments. Thats not very believable

The younger generation ARE the hope. This is the generation that is more accepting and courageous to break stereotypes and normalise mental disabilities

Disability doesn’t define a person its their personality that does Most people think that kids with autism are weird or kids with any disability are not normal or weird which isnt true. They are as “normal” as us and also no one is “normal” we are all unique in different ways. People need to realize that just because some kids arent like us doesnt mean they are weird or anything. Treat people how you want to be treated and dont judge a book by its cover you never know what their personality is like until you get to know them. Have a good day/night! And stay safe
