Since 1976, I have lived in this neighborhood (off of Eastway/ Shamrock Dr. / Central Ave. ) I have seen this city go from good to bad. I have seen alot and have been involved with city public service. YES, you are right. The city is out of control. This area is NOT being gentrified--- No, this area is NOT being gentrified. And, I have talked to the City until I was blue in the face! I want to make my point clear. Plus, it is very upsetting to watch the city throw money into the rich neighborhoods (Ballentyne, the South End, the North End, West Charlotte, when we here in (EAST Charlotte, where you videoed, have been trying for 20+ years for them to do something with the 80-acres at the old Eastland Mall area. I use to go to Eastland Mall for shopping; but when it became infested with drugs, gangs, shooting (now like Northlake Mall), it was DEMOLISHED. The crime in East Charlotte is ridiculously high. Now the city is finally doing something with the Eastland Mall area- exactly what, we don't know. They go back and forth, back and forth- (all talk and no action!) for 20+ years now. Just today, I was at the ALDI on Albemarle Road and there were gun shots in the apartments behind-- this is an everyday occurrence around E.CLT. To prove, I have bullet holes where a bullet came into my bedroom wall and went across into my bathroom wall and into the next wall across. Last night the CMPD chopper was over my backyard and police cars were flying down my street. Later I saw on 'Next Door' the person was arrested. I am a pastor, and this is were the Lord has me planted amongst the most multi-cultural part of the city where the immigrants/ refugees mostly settled- many of them have done very well financially & socially.. and have moved to other parts of the city.

My biggest real complaint about Charlotte is that it’s difficult to get a place to live. It’s not *that* affordable (I can’t afford a place in Charlotte by myself without assistance). The housing authority just recommends you shelters and one shelter makes you call some number (closed after 5 and on weekends) to be accepted just to get in. I think trashy people are attracted to Charlotte from other places and if you have a bad encounter with someone there chances are they’re responsible. They’re probably also occupying the shelters and housing assistance workers, which a city this size doesn’t have enough of. But instead Charlotte keeps building luxury apartments and condos, which we really don’t need more of.

@avengedfingsevenfold meh. It depends on the locale. Grey skies are depressing in Charlotte because there's not much natural beauty around. Just hoods and burbs all around. In places like Seattle, you're surrounded by Evergreen trees, cherry blossoms in the spring, and mountains and water all around you so it contrasts well with the gray skies. Blue skies are great too, but you appreciate nature more in some cities regardless of the weather.

You have to understand Charlotte is one of the largest cities in the US. I live in a suburb west of Charlotte and am extremely familiar with the city. For a city its size (890,000), the crime rate isn’t that bad. One of the lowest rates of homelessness, one of the cleanest. You went through very select neighborhoods like Hidden Valley, trying to portray it as the norm. Most areas are actually very nice, again, for a city its size. I would never want to live in a big, central city of a metro area. Its liberal policies just create too many problems like you see in SF, LA, NYC, Portland, and DC. But Charlottes suburbs are great and the city itself is safe if you use wisdom and just stay out of the few ghetto areas. We have been here for years and have never had a problem.

Yea. Go to any neighborhood where people are actively keeping a watchful eye for suspicious, unknown, and out of town cars. Keep making those kinds of loops. Then call them crazy for wanting to see whats up with you or at least get a good look at your face. With all the shootings in CLT, people will approach you first rather than wait to see what you're gonna do the next time you make a loop. I DoorDash in CLT. Be prepared to be approached if you're unknown and doing anything suspicious like this. I've never been bothered. But I also know how to make it obvious who I am and what I'm doing without saying a word. If you do this same thing in a Pineville or Ballantyne neighborhood, the reaction will be the same. But confrontation will be different. You'd be talking to the police.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the point of this video. You are purposely trying to find the worst areas in and around the city. When you actively go looking for something, you're going to find it and then you have a guy approach your car and you booked it outta there? If someone approaching your car saying "excuse me" scares you that much, then maybe you shouln't be trying to drive in shady areas. I've lived in in many cities and states, including Charlotte, and these are not the "real streets of Charlotte" by any means. Charlotte overall is a safe city, so stop trying to scare people with headlines like that just for clicks because it is completely disingenuous.

At sugar creek rd there is an alternative school TPA I went to, there are teens there that have illegal firearms, vapes, knives, weed, and steal cars, and hang in gangs, luckily I never joined a gang bc some of em rlly shoot I heard. So to everyone saying Charlotte is safe, there are even adults who do the gang shit 😅

Just a normal day in Charlotte. Dad was transferred to Charlotte in JAN 1970. It was a sleepy southern town.....still had Blue Laws. In 2001 I escaped Charlotte. But in 2019 we returned for a funeral. We stayed in a 'good' area eastside. When leaving we were attacked by a LARGE homeless man. We escaped again but almost had to run down a person in self defense. Eastway Dr is still in the good side of town....try 'Beattie For Roo' next time.

Native Charlotte residents hate their city. They are the minority population after New Yorkers and a huge collective of migrants from Ohio, California and Florida. The native residents go out of their way to "put their city on the worst ghetto map". The local government passed some ordinances that literally rid the city of all of its ghettos. Before I moved here I didn't even know that was possible. There are ghetto streets here and there but most of the city is gorgeous. Whatever ordinance that was passed forced residents of various incomes and races to all live in the same neighborhoods. So, instead of streets filled with mansions or shacks, you can literally, see a mansion right next door to a shack. It's weird and attractive at the same time. There are exceptions. Some streets are still one or the other. Last year, Charlotte was ranked number fifty nine on the dangerous cities ratings for the United States. I was raised in both Kansas City and Cleveland, both of which are in the top ten. This year, 2023, Charlotte isn't even in the top sixty. The locals are heated. They can't even hide it. They hate how beautiful and peaceful most of Charlotte is. I know what I'm saying sounds ridiculous but you'd have to come here to believe it. They try to hide it by talking about gentrification but (as I said earlier) I'm from the hood. My people (outside of Black suburbanites and Black activists) don't even use the word "gentrification". The locals are just some of the most uninspired and unproductive people I've ever met. Nearly all of the growth that this city is experiencing is because of the people moving here from cities that are actually high in the crime and murder ratings list. People who are sick and tired of ghetto life and ghetto mentalities because they actually lived in real ghettos all of their lives. I also have to point out that it's not just the native Charlotte residents that are trying to make it on to the crime rankings map. There are a lot of ghetto minded people here from South Carolina too and there are a lot of ghetto minded people here from some of the Latino countries (Central America, South America, the Caribbean Islands). Much of our Latino family are also filthy people. Most of them are decent people but a lot of them are here for trifling reasons. They have a clueless mentality that makes them unable to recognize the beauty and opportunity that Charlotte presents. Overall, (with over 1 million residents inside the city) Charlotte is probably the safest and most peaceful large city in the country.

I’m from Little Rock, AR and have also lived in New Orleans. Charlotte is where it’s at!!! We purchased a condo here last summer and I love the trees and nature. I’m right on the greenway and steps from a shopping center. Healthcare is top notch. Why do you think it’s #1 in the housing market in the country? Y’all better appreciate what you have.
