None of it would have happened without the scholarship. By sponsoring 5 people, potentially 10, that school brought in at least two big-name sponsors to the benefit of the entire student body. Same concept as regular sports. Think I cared about the sports facilities my school built I would never use? Not really. But I got to pay to use the training (gym) facilities, and reap the benefits of sponsorship money from the teams. Simple.

I'm happy to see that gaming has started to grow. I grew up playing games as a young kid during hte early 90s. I remember playing a game that I still cant find the name for. Where you and a buddy on the same keyboard would move these squares (supposed to be a tank) around this map and your goal was to shoot the other tank. You could bounce the shots off walls and I remember then being like "how insane is this". Now 20 years later and theres video games that look better than the CGI they can do in movies. It's fucking nuts.

Video games however already have a global fanbase and people make millions for playing them for a living.

I understand that there's a real market for pro gamers to make a living but I don't think colleges should be offering scholarships for them. @jericosha2842

Jellee anybody that's good enough to compete even at a sub pro level probably plays way too much. I used to be competing in my local area for guitar hero and I definitely played an unhealthy amount of that game lol. And besides, the bigger problem is that scholarships for gaming would encourage people to play video games more. Sports is a more acceptable thing to encourage because exercise is good for you. Video games aren't.
