Dominik Wusa actually large dense cities are not bad, its the towns surrounding it that contribute to most of the energy use and gas emmisions. Living in a compact city forces people to live a little greener by using less water and electricity. everything is closer to each other so there's less distance a car has to travel. the amount of land a city takes is less than rural areas, allowing for less deforestation, leaving the areas it doesn't take up unharmed

Wow... They are absolutely my inspiration! I also have a dream to restore Borneo rainforest. It was a sickening experience when I saw clear sky turns gray, burned leaves drops from the sky, and the locals told you that it's the time when people start to open new fields for palm oil. Even kids were amused to see raging fire and parents didn't prohibit kids to get closer. I could not avoid to breath smoke before it extinguished. The main problem is a severe drop in raw rubber prices and oil palm seems more promising, because the locals will get paid by palm oil company for each tons of it. Some issue told that Indonesian raw rubber is bad. Affluent landowner would start turn their rubber plantations into oil palm plantations, buy one to two trucks, and employ young men who could not get a better job outside the village because of low education and skills. I remembered an elder asked me, "Do you mind if some men follow you home untill they get a job?" I could send you photos of burned forest so you could believe my experiences.

Teddy Tretyakov-badkov In “India of all places”, really? Do you live there and know the culture there. The number of acres of forest PER CAPITA we have destroyed in the US far surpasses most countries.

Great story. I have tried to do something similar in a micro area in Minnesota. It used to be a 1/3 acre of lawn in the middle of town. It is now a growing little forest, full of birds and native bees (no, not honey bees they are European, although they do show up). Many of the small trees have shown up on their own and the native plants I planted are expanding and birds are bring in more seeds. It looks nothing like before. I did get permission from the town, in 2005, because I knew some people would complain and they did.
