So sorry for your loss. It’s not just the person that’s ill with cancer that suffers. It’s like the whole family has it. It eats on each one daily as the cancer grows on its host. All anyone can do is to be there for them as much as possible and as long as they will let you. And always be respectful and reassure your love for them. I hope your father didn’t suffer long as so many do. He’ll never have to do any of that again. Once again I’m truly sorry for the loss of your father.

Ringing that bell is extremely emotional, both for a patient and those in the waiting room. When my mother finished her treatment, she didn’t want to ring the bell she just wanted to quietly walk out. I told her that by her ringing the bell, she let others that were waiting for their treatment know that she came through it, and they could too! I’m glad I was standing close to her when she rang the bell because her legs gave out. I was able to catch her thankfully. It was the overwhelming emotion that made this happen. I was so proud of her. It’s been nine years and I see it like it was yesterday.
