It is interesting that the 7 th Daytona is not recognised. Shelby made contact with Jon Ohlsen in New Zealand and asked him to build two Daytona coups. This came about because Jon worked with Pete Brock in the old days.Shelby issued two sets of chassis numbers. Sadly Jon passed away before the car was complete. I was privileged to visit with Jon during the build. The car was completed and shipped to the US A. Jon also built the Wilson’s Daytona’s back in the day. He suffered burns with the famous Daytona pit fire.

I mean the 20k kit car title these cars get from factory five (mk4, 289, type 65) is a bit misleading becasue to get it to running and driving the way you probably want it would cost 60-70k becasue you still need an engine, trans, a rear end, wheels, and tires, and on top of that, you need to paint the car and put over 30-40 hours into it, not saying it is a bad deal, far from it, it is a great experiance to be able to build a unique and super cool car for this price, but it is just a bit misleading when all over I see 20k kit car when in reality it is most likley going to cost 3x the amount.
