My objective is a layout with both a fiddle yard or yards, and loop. Maybe even throw in some shelf layouts. Ron, I kinda liked the old layout as I am a person that wants to see my trains go around from time to time instead of back and forth.. but I do get the train of your thoughts.. haha pun intended there... I loved the yards and ladder system you had and I think I might replicate something like that for my layout, as I have a lot of engines and rolling stock and would like to leave a certain amount of them out on display instead of hidden in draws as you mentioned.. I do like the shadow display box behind you with all of your engines and some rolling stock on show, that is a great idea. I personally am not a scenic person I just want to lay tracks and play trains ..... I have no specific railway system in mind just an imaginary layout to suit the space I have. Another great and informative video and I am glad I have found your channel a while back and follow along since. Cheers from Melbourne Australia.... Tim.

G-day Tim from Melbourne! Thank you for stopping by my channel awhile ago and liking what I do enough to earn your Sub!! It's always a battle between what size of layout you want and how much room do you have. I do miss that big ladder on the first one. BUT......This layout is just a interim until I get a new facility to put the Final layout in (hopefully) Greetings from way up North in Montana, USA :-)

The only thing I haven't done is re-wire everything from the tender to the locomotive. Have any ideas? I come to you because you impress me with your knowledge. I love your videos. Oh--the output voltage from the transformer is between 10 and 16 volts. No overload there. New brushes and springs. Thanks.

when laying flex track and joining to another flex piece, cut back one section so the joint is not at the curve. that way, there is never a kink. the leftover piece can be used on a siding.
@classicmodeltrains
Жыл бұрын
I tried that but this curve was so long it ended up using the piece of flex and I still had a bit more curve to go.

I use my ultrasonic cleaner and simple green. Perhaps a vinegar and salt soak would do it also.

Even the painting of the underside of the layout adds that finished look that takes it up a notch or two. I was figuring I would skip that on mine for time savings but I can see the error of my thinking.

Only the visible parts of the legs and support is painted. The actual "underside" of the plywood and 1X4 framing is still wood colored. Ive been called "anal" in the past but even that is to much for me :-)

Are you extending the baseboard at the right end? At 13:31 the top points are the end-of-track which seems pointless (pun intended) as there is no space to run beyond them to change tracks.

I will miss the old layout Ron but I’m glad you found a plan which you intend on using more and that you end up liking better. I think that’s the most rewarding thing of model railroading is being able to do things that you please. And in the end of it if you still aren’t happy you can always try again! But it’s great to see you drive into the world of so many things. I’m really happy you got the space to do this! I’m working on modular style layout design and already built two spots. I gotta finish the ends and get some radii put down. I want a 30” but probably won’t be able to do it at nearly that large. All will be set up and easily taken down. Thanks for the inspiration to build a good looking layout. Can’t wait to see it done!!!
