For the record, FAA requirements for part 107 operations at night are: 1) LAANC approval if in controlled airspace--per usual, but LAANC didn't used to be available at night and now it is, 2) strobe visible to 3 statute miles installed on the drone, and 3) have passed the recent 107 recurrent exam that includes provisions for night ops without waiver. All other usual requirements such as registration and spotter also apply. If you fly at night without complying with these rules, the FAA may contact you. Also, be aware that the rules allow the brightness of the strobe to be reduced (but not turned off completely) if in the judgement of the PIC it is in the interest of safety to do so (for example, if the brightness of the strobe is so high that it impedes the ability of the spotter to look at the drone).

Ive found that the Caddx Polar Starlight camera is exceptionally good in low-light. Better than the footage I'm seeing here. Ive flown in absolute pitch black conditions and any ambient light is makes it such that there is actually more visibility with the Vista than with the naked eye. Its the one major downside to migrating to the O3 unit - the camera is great in daylight but pretty much unusable at night

Walksnail is ticking all the boxes for me. I'm cheap, and I don't fly professionally, just for fun, but I do have an FPV obsession. I built a 75mm whoop with the 1s board and couldn't be happier, it basically makes all of my 75mm HD whoops, 75mm analog whoops obsolete, and it creates a new class of HD that is fairly impressive. When all my other quads are down for the count, i can fast charge some 1s batteries and keep flying that little walksnail whoop that could. The fact that they are advancing to a v2 this early in the game gives me hope, there will be good support and lots of updates and new toys in the future using this system!

I don’t understand why more people don’t use IR leds and remove the filter on the lens like I do. It’s literally a night vision conversion that is so simple and cheap that you don’t need a camera that cranks high ISO. You can do it on any quad 65mm to x class. Oh well 🤷🏻♂️
@lemonsquareFPV

I do this too!!! It’s one of the coolest experiences in FPV! Especially when flying in pitch dark in caves and forests! I use 850nm LEDs either from a flashlight or custom 4 LED creations with drivers. What have you had the best experience with? The Avatar V1 and HDZero V2 and 90hz cameras are the best I have experienced. And I have only used 850nm, never bothered to try 700 or 900 or anything…

@@lemonsquareFPV Probably the best was a de-cased IR flashlight I bought on Ali express. I built a custom 3d printed housing and powered it using a 5v pad. I could detach the light using a bt2.0 connection. The camera was just a cheap analog camera. I have the Caddx Walksnail system and used a spare lens and it’s flies amazing at night. I posted a build on rotorbuilds and I have footage on my ig that shows what it can do. But I did mess up the resistor so I have to eventually update the build on rotorbuilds.

@@YouBetterEnjotIt Well fair warning I think you could get in trouble with the FAA (or somebody...) for night flights.... Having said that there are some videos on youtube etc...just search "IR led FPV" catch22mania I think has some good builds but hes not in the US...There are also some builds on rotorbuilds that you can find. I think most people dont do it because you get rid of the ir filter in your camera. And unless you like swaping in and out a different lens for the time of day you are stuck with a really ugly color for your feed during the day. But I prefer flying with IR LEDS over trying to buy all these dumb cameras that dont actually let you see at night.

@lemonsquareFPV
Жыл бұрын
Those props are amazing, talk about intelligent nature inspired design!!! Single pulse, 1.5 blade, ultra aerodynamic prop, I have never seen anything like it! 👍🏻👍🏻 would be cool to see how it would perform on our quads! Literally the only propeller that has interested me outside of what I normally use. Zipline do so much cool development and testing, definitely one of my favourite companies. My night rig is the Avatar v1 nano camera with the IR filter removed and an IR illuminator above it, on the top plate in front of the battery, blows this camera out of the water for sheer visibility and fun, but if someone has night vision they can easily spot you. 😜 The OG Avatar cameras have good IR sensitivity and it literally looks like daytime with an IR source. My favourite is flying in caves or abandoned facilities that are literally pitch dark… good times… definitely recommend 👍🏻👍🏻 I have done the same with DJI and HDZero. DJI’s cameras are pretty meh compared to Avatar, on the IR side, and HDZero is quite amazing, very, very impressive actually, it’s just that the video systems signal doesn’t do as well in complex stone/steel and high penetration environments. But for flying around the neighbourhood at night it’s awesome. 🤌🏻 I rip the Runcam90 with the Predator 5 lens and an IR illuminator and it is literally one of my favourite things in FPV, so good!!! 😊 IR is the best way to fly in the dark, for me, otherwise even with an amazing high gain camera it’s just hard to see and more stress than fun. Good luck dodging branches and such 😜 with IR, the smallest little branch glows, and I can rip through a forest faster than in the daytime. Happy flying.
