That's the beauty of Gran Turismo 4. Even when you have all the money and the race cars, there's still pleasure driving some obscure hatchback on trial mountains or destroying the AI with your 600 hp skyline. So many cars to test, so many events and races. It's a single player hardcore drug.

No it doesn't, it just shows that GT4 was amazing, has aged well, is easy to run and, most importantly, is free. I guarantee that if GT5 or 6 were as easy to run upscaled to 1080p or 4K as GT4 is then we'd be modding that to add a GT4-like career mode instead of modding GT4 to add GT5/6-like graphics.

To me, this game will always be the shining example of replayability. I may not complete the game, but each time I start a new playthrough it's different than the last. At least to some degree. Admittedly I didn't like the game that much as a kid, the weird camera and lack of throttle control made it difficult to play for me back then. However pretty much every complaint one could have is fixable nowadays. With emulation this is as close to a flawless game as you can get. It aged fantastically, and will likely continue to age better than many modern racing games due to their over-reliance on online and shallow career offerings. There really couldn't be a better time to give GT4 a try

Heyyyy hello dustin, I watch your vids lol! So yeah anyways I really love GT4 in terms of replayability too. It's not just because it's got a load of cars, but the progression of the game is just too perfect to say the least. It's a mix of getting the cars too easily and too hard, like getting a kei car that is enjoying to cruise in a circuit and then replaying the whole 10 mile driving park course to get like the much better JGTC cars that you'll then drive at the likes of suzuka and nurburgring, is something that I would always try and do everytime I boot up the game and I absolutely never get bored of it. And if you don't want to race but you you do want to get yourself entertained, you can simply go to photo mode, play the game on director's mode, and watch the car simply drive all around as if you're watching like those top gear cinematic heli cams, and that's something other racing games lack.

Tbh Xbox emulation doesn't seem all that alluring because all of its games, bar a few obscure exceptions, made it to PC at one point or another. With Sony's stuff it's another matter, same for Nintendo, because they still maintain a ton of console exclusive titles. If PD continues to just make Gran Turismo exclusively for Sony consoles I predict that in 10 years people will be excited over the prospect of emulating the PS5 so they can play GT7 for the first time. I love the series, but nowadays I would not buy a PS5 just for a scant few games that you can't play anywhere else, even if that means skipping a few GT games.

What I love the most about this emulator is, that it also do have real Force Feedback wheel support. I can play the whole game with my cheap G29. But there also is a downside. For example the "Le Mans" track with a really fast car, the force feedback is getting nuts. On the straights it just switches from left to right with maximum force 10 times/second and there's nothing you can do against it, except turning the FFB off. When I remember right, it also was a problem on the PS2 itself. I've played GT4 on the PS2 with the G25 and there was the same problem. On the PS2 you had no chance to turn off the FFB, instead I had no other option than play this track/race with the controller. Besides this problem, it's awesome how far we came in case of emulation. It's "just" a PS2, but it also is "still" a PS2 which delivered great graphics for the time and I still love it. Unfortunately my PS2 is now broken, because I stepped on it and the laser isn't reading any disks. 😞 So I only can play GT4 with an emulator and I am so happy that it exists. Thanks to all the people who spent so much time in programming this awesome tool. And thanks to you, Rowdy, for this informative and well done video.

Suggestions: add a trainer with options for a jump button, hydraulics, placeable ramps, placeable grind rails, wheelies, endos, nitrous, kickflips, heelflips, physics sliders, neons, night mode, rain, in-air tilt-ability (like gta), speed boost pads (like wipeout), and mp3 music player.

Why stop there? they could also add, tanks, rocket launchers, motorbikes, bow n arrows, boats, team deathmatch mode, capture the flag, triathlons, power-ups, car football, killstreaks, and natural disasters.

Rowdy I love Gran Turismo 4 and this game has a special place in my heart ! Although I love this game, in the modding is there a way to make some of the racing track grid start (3-2-1 start) instead of the rolling starts ? If there was 1 thing I didn't like is some of the track have rolling starts and I was wondering if you can change that.

I have seen it done on a couple of xTimelessGaming's videos before, and it could be done through modding, although I don't believe the modder making Spec II has any intentions of changing the start types for any tracks/events

Impressive actually, wonder if more npcs/racers could be added, imagine racing 12 or 16 cars on gran turismo 4; that would be awesome ngl

Man, first of all, thanks for your Ultimate Gran Turismo 4 Guide, i followed step by step and it works perfectly! The only thing, is it possible for you to do a tutorial for the trigger sensitivity buttons you tell in 02:43? This specific step wasnt covered in the other video, anyways, thanks!

GT4 is masterpiece... If you watch how it was developed... How much love was put to that game.... If you have original DVD video...And you at least seen that document.... Now makes everything sense... They wanted to make best racing (simulator) game in the world.... In my opinion they did..It is crazy how many cars are there... some prototypes in that time that are now real cars ...awesome...

I feel conflicted about this. Obviously, this is awesome, I mean our cherished game has been improved but I feel the original, with it's quirks and foibles, is better. I recently bought a Japanese PS2 and a few games and the nostalgia is strong. I even found the official soundtrack CD for the game! (Oh, and the Japanese intro music is the best. Sorry Van Halen and Kasabian!) That being said, what's possible with today's emulation is fricken unreal. Thanks for the great video!

I recently revisited this same game and found it to be a lot more fun if you turn down a lot of the driving assists. Traction control and stability control down to almost off is a lot more Forza like and add JUST a little arcade to the way the cars handle. Basically allowing more tire spin and drift. Doing so I found myself enjoying racing more and just having to SLAM the brakes down to super low speed to make any corners.
