In the latest installment of the Harvest Moon series, The Winds of Anthos, Natsume has added some additional gameplay gimmicks to several activities you can engage in within the game, one of them being mining. Instead of relying on random chances to unearth mining items, as is typical in Harvest Moon games, there's a dowsing system that displays a range on your map in the form of a blue circle, guaranteeing the presence of mineable items right at the center of that circle.
Furthermore, there's a system in place where rocks randomly fall when you strike a mineral deposit during mining. While this system can be frustrating at times since your character can lose a significant amount of stamina if hit by a falling rock, did you know that it can actually work to your advantage if triggered at the right time?
Through a post on X, Cherubae, a writer of guides for various Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons titles in Fogu.com, unintentionally allowed her character to take damage from a distant falling rock at the exact moment she ran out of time during the Festival Mining Meet event. This festival is a competition to obtain the most mining results and takes place on the 19th of every season in Herbstburg. What happened? Instead of the festival ending when the time ran out, the glitch caused the game to continue, allowing the player to remain active even though the clock had already struck 0:00, and each item found during mining continued to add to the contest score. With a supply of extra food for stamina, players can keep mining and win the Advanced rank festival without breaking a sweat. When satisfied, simply climb the ladder to forcibly end the competition.
