I had a similar experience on a waiting list that long. There's a pretty popular luthier in NY who famously epoxy's fretless basses/guitars, almost like a mirror glass finish. Got on the waiting list in 2015, and sure enough, got an email back in 2019 telling me it was my turn. Had to tell the guy in those four years, I graduated college, had two relationships including one engagement, moved to another state and I sold my fretless 2-3 years beforehand. No matter how good the gear is, there's no singular piece of gear worth waiting almost half a decade for IMO

As someone who has owned a KOT and gigged with one for awhile I can say my first initial impression of the pedal was underwhelming. You don’t notice how amazing this pedal is until you spend at least a month with it and test it at a proper gig. It is the only OD I’ve used that sounds great with ANY amp. It just brings the best out of your amp in so many ways while staying dynamic. It’s definitely not a tube screamer it’s completely different. That being said - if you can’t pay $800 for a pedal there are some other amazing options out there (kingtone duellist is great) but if you want something cheap honestly the tc electronic mojo mojo comes pretty damn close too!

On another note Chris Siegmund of Siegmund amps built me an amp and a one off mic pre I designed, and he recently passed away. What a sad day he was a genius. I got bit by the KOT bug a couple years ago. Couldn't wait so I paid $650 on Reverb. I've tried desperately to integrate and use this pedal, but it just doesn't do much of anything different from other drives. The left channel on factory setting on mine sounds like I threw a blanket over my amps. I've tried it with Boogie Fillmore 100, 50, Mark V 35 and HXSTOMP. My friend who is a professional, touring guitarist kept asking me if I had a good overdrive he could use and we went through a number of them over a few years and he went through many more on his own, but once I loaned him my King Of Tone, his search ended. He asked me if he could take it on tour with him and I said yes since I wasn't gigging at the time. It became the center of his overall tone, that which his whole sound is based on. There are so many good pedals that do a great job of achieving Blues breaker pedal tone , which King of Tone is based on . AnalogMan doesn't over charge for this pedal so that's good but a 4 year wait for a pedal that uses a common circuit and readily available , off the shelf parts is just a bit ridiculous . There are companies making identical clones for under $100 that are available now and everyday . Then there's Morning Glory , Double Barrel , Morning Star , Prince of Tone, Blues Crab , Snouse , 1962, Parthenon and a zillion more of these BB pedals that will get the user to the same place . Some are cheap and some costly yet they all basically do the same thing and sound good . There's nothing magical about any of them . It's a good circuit that sounds great no matter who's name is on the box .
@nostro1001

@Glenn...nothing will sound as good as the one that is most hyped and likely most expensive. The guitar community has many such examples of such gear and with all the KZitem demos these days it's seemingly endless. People demoing a single pedal solo with people chiming in on the comments that the pedal sounds amazing. There's no reference, no comparison etc. And when there are comparisons, there's no band, no mix and people will comment on arguably minor variations that in reality all sound good and likely indistinguishable in a mix. Cheers. 🎶🎶🎶

Each one is touted to be “better” or “just as good” by its fan base but none of them are. The thing about this pedal is that it works *every time* no matter what…which is rare in the pedal world. Almost every pedal has a sonic situation in which it starts falling apart, even those $1500 “Dumble in a box” pedals…ESPECIALLY those pedals. The KOT doesn’t have that. It’s a great pedal. I have two and an original klon as well that I gig hard. I don’t care about the pedals being unobtainium since I got them when they came out for retail, I also gig vintage amps and guitars that I got cheap(ish). My advice to younger players or players getting into equipment now is to look at what’s around now that you can get that will likely grow in value. It’s happening every day, new gear that jumps in price. The klon and KOT aren’t worth the hype prices but they do rule and I’m just happy to have picked them up when they were available

There is this pedal maker who sell a limited run every year. 4-10 units a year of a Germanium Version of King Of Tone for only 125usd. I reserved a slot for 50% downpayment now I have to wait for 3months for it. Excited!

I'm on the list. Not paying the Reverb price. I'm still a bit away from my name being picked. But I'll be patient. As far as a request, I am enjoying stereo effects pedals that are more than just a split signal, like the Wampler Terraform. I'd love to see an episode with a stereo pedalboard and what kind of effects you can create with your talent, that we mere mortals haven't discovered yet.

Love the KoT. I leave it at home, but gig with the Prince of Tone (which has no waiting list). Not as versatile, but still amazing pedal! Great playing, as always.

You got some killer sounds there. When you made that sound darker with the LP using the tone control, I liked that a lot. Great vid.

I have one. Waited 2 years and paid under $300 for it with the features I requested. It’s a nice pedal. Some really good sounds.and worth it at the price I paid. But paying more than that for instant gratification to a scalper on Reverb is just insane IMO. It’s not like it does something it would be utterly impossible get with something else.

I'm overwhelmed by the amount of variety and choices we have as guitar players currently. This tone is nice but I imagine you can get it other ways and still be impressed without the craziness/hype. I always hear about how nowadays is the best time to be a guitar player and I agree but it's also led to absurd market saturation of the different kinds of gear. Distortion isn't that special to come with insane waiting lists or crazy prices.

Iv never heard a distortion pedal Sound better than an amp that producers quality distortion. The dynamics/ tone are always flat and the distortion is always too buzz saw-y . For the amount people are willing to pay for pedals they are way better off buying an amp that has good distortion .

I custom ordered mine in December 2012. With these options: Add a Toggle Switch no charge; Add external mode switch for red side $50; Higher Gain option on V4 both sides $20; 9vDC Jack $15; Total cost $320!! Arrived November 2013 If you want my KOT you will have to pry it from my cold dead hands. Or maybe I should create a waiting list?

I am agonizingly close to ending my wait, which has been over 5 years. (2018 to 2023)... I first became aware of it when a guy was comparing amps and then engaged his OD and I was like, what the heck pedal is that!? When I learned they were affordable when ordered direct, I got on the list. Can't wait!

There are people who have been on an Astro-Physics telescope list for 20 years. Most people who have been on a list for one have waited over 10 years. The builder Roland Christen is simply the best there's ever been at what he does. People routinely pay twice the cost of a new scope for a used one, and the rarer ones have sold for 5 times the original asking price. They seldom last more than a day on the market. Telescopes are a very niche product, so this is amazing.

This effect is also expensive because Marshall Bluesbreaker MK1 got really expensive and the left part of the pedal has Bluesbreaker circuit which really shines as a transparent overdrive . Taking it into account - it appears to be AFFORDABLE , because you have two effects in one . You have also 4 dip-switches that will also make the tone knobs behave differently depending on your amp.
