They had 20 round mags same as the thompson. They made a 12 round specific mag, but those were only issued for guards AND the 12 round mag well could be swapped for the standard 20 and any given time.

The guns weren’t all that unreliable- they were just being used in a manner they weren’t designed for. If you remade the Reising gun today with more modern techniques that didn’t require the literal hand filing of certain parts to certain guns it’d probably operate about as good as any other SMG out there. Also: there are also 30 round magazines for it, but they’re after market.

@bad74maverick1

This video is a bit misleading. The guns did jam..... on the beaches with sand. So did thompsons. Once off the beach the Reising's were well liked in fact there are famous pictures of Reising model 60's, the semi auto version being carried late in the war with sawn off barrels. The big problem was they were hand fitted by H&R. Marines were taught to clean their guns together and dump parts into a pot of solvent. They soon found out that they had to be individually cleaned because of this and the issues that stemmed from them stopped. They were not as unreliable as it was stated, and they actually were liked because they had almost no recoil, were the most accurate SMG the US issued and had 20 round mags the same as the thompson. Only guard units got the 12 round mags. Not only that but the 12 round mag well could be swapped out at any given time for 20 round mag wells. Poster of the video forgot to mention that.

I don't think guns need to be "new" to be good. We should just use what is perfect. Russian soldiers refuse to abandon AK-74M for the newer guns like AK-12 for the same reason. From AK-47 to AKM, AK-74 to AK-74M. Old things are perfect because it is time-proven
