As Barry Humphries (dame Edna Everidge) said about alcohol "If you're fortunate enough to escape from the lion's den, you don't go back for your hat!!"

Much as i love your insights and info, encouragement, etc. you guys give doctors waaaayyyy too much credit. They know ZERO about treating alcohol addiction, nutrition, addiction psychology, spirituality, etc. They only know about treating physical symptoms, prescribing drugs and minimal care at that… tell them you are concerned about your drinking problem they automatically say “go to AA” (which demonstrates their ignorance to the many many ways/paths to leading an alcohol free life.

They scare people away from stopping. ‘GET TO THE REHAB!’ They’re clowns. Two clowns. …just rehashing what all of us already know. Doctor Doctor Doctor F them. Edit: not all of us can go to rehab and see doctors and jump on benzos. Marcus is a bitter leprechaun. With all his gimmicks and his $$$$ While E begging from broke alcos. I don’t think these privileged clowns knew a “dark point” But they probably have me blocked by now so I doubt anybody’s gonna read this comment. Keep your chins up guys.

Best two comments I have heard: 1) If you are going through Hell, keep going (Winston Churchill) 2) The wolf you feed us the wolf that grows stronger (unknown)

I'm on day 80. Struggling to motivate myself to do things that used to involve beer... Soccer match (live), soccer match (at the bar as not on TV at home), cinema, bowling. Tending to stay at home and read or go for solo bike rides. I do have a job and family, just no social life!

How do u get past a month I can do a month easy but I always hit a brick wall were my mind is completely engulfed with thoughts of drinking and thinking about the all the bad shit in my life and I cave.

@@getpape4126 thankfully I don't have friends or social events to avoid... My drinking was always solo (pub to watch football, or at home with a movie). That has made it easier (somewhat). But I did get urges around a month... I often sit in bed straight after dinner, with a book and a decaf coffee. It's like my safe space that protects me from evening temptation. Tell me more about your cravings?

IDK if I was lucky, but it’s been over 9 months and I don’t crave a drop of alcohol, the key difference was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal after go’ogling and reading Steffon Barkload’s Quit Drinking Forever, not even within the first 30 days after I quit and told no one, did not need AA meetings or meds either.

We alcoholics have to actively find something that we are passionate about once we sober up. Our new passion -at least for me- needs to be something that I was not familiar with when I was drinking. When I became sober the first time, I did not understand this fact. PAWS is a challenge for most. Nevertheless, I’m starting over again and at least have an idea what can better help me this go around.

Good that ER part hits close to home. In two months I racked up $14,000 in medical debt going to the ER because I thought I was dying, only to find out I was just having panic attacks
