PANAJACHEL in GUATEMALA is certainly a TOWN of two halves. Divided by a large RIVER the left hand side half of town is for TOURISTS and BACKPACKERS:HOTELS, BARS and tourist ATTRACTIONS. But what is on the RIGHT hand side of the river??? Join me as I find out.
I was out walking one evening and took a WRONG TURN, after getting lost for almost 5 minutes I happened across a huge river which clearly divided the town of Panajachel. I was extremely curious about what was on the other side of the river and done some research when I got home...nothing. Well, I decided to find out for myself and was very happy to find the other side of town was a less developed area of Panajachel. Very peaceful and friendly locals, it was an exciting day out.
I was also surprised to find a very small BEACH where the mouth of the river meets the lake. It was practically deserted save for about 20 other tourists who were spread out along the SHORE. It was awesome, it offered amazing views of the LAKE and VOLCANOS and the best thing is you didn't have to que for a picture. An awesome find and one I hope that you can discover as well when you visit the town of Panajachel on LAKE ATITLAN in Guatemala.
