Thank you, this took me back! In '79 I My local dealer was Team Electronics (SF SD) and their pinnacle rack had the Pioneer up top, the Kenwood below that, the Sansui, and then the Yammie at the bottom; I loved the look of the Sansui, but the Yamaha's separate Tape Out, variable Loudness control, and superior S/N ratio sold me. bought the Yammie CT-410 tuner with the CA-810 integrated amp, and that system was moved to three universities and six states over the next 31 years. It burned thru 3 cassettte decks, 3 CD players, and two turntables. I still have them and they still work fine, although I've given up on replaciing the meter bulbs, after two I was done. Mine also had the rosewood cabinets, but silver-face (to this day I'm not happy with the black look).

In early 20th century up to the late 70's, Ontario was particularly famous for its electronic industry, electric apliances, and there were lots of local piano makers too, famous ones, Mason & Risch, Heintzman etc, and for electronics, yes, Electrohome was great at the time.. and we thought it was a great thing to buy japanese stuff and close all of industry.. Now, we have Yamaha pianos, bikes and audio.. wow.. what have we gained?

My grandfather who worked for Electrohome was shocked at how fast it all came apart around 1979. He said "the problem is that we made the TV's too good"!
