The aircraft carrier depicted in this music video is most likely the HMS Ark Royal, whose 818th Torpedo Bomber Squadron managed to cripple Bismarck and ultimately ended the chase. The old Fairey Swordfish they flew were so slow, the advanced AA gunsights on Bismarck were unable to accurately target them on top of the planes skins being made of canvas. The shells would just tear through without doing much damage.

Fun Fact, the lines “They are bound by iron and blood” are a reference to the ships namesake, Otto von Bismarck, the man who united the 39 disunited German states to form Germany with Prussia at its head and one of the greatest leaders and politicians the world ever saw. It’s from a speech he gave, emphasizing German unity: “The great questions of the day will not be settled by means of speeches and majority decisions, but by iron and blood.” He was saying that the German states couldn’t unite merely by signing treaties, but through military strength so as to defend against their enemies who’d want to prevent the creation of Germany, namely Austria and France.

So the Bismarck was the German flagship during WWII and easily the biggest ship in the Atlantic. If the allies had let it out into the Atlantic Ocean it would have wreaked havoc on the supply convoys between America and Briton, likely ending the war. The British opposed it with with their own massive battleship the HMS Hood, but the Hood was hit on it's lighter armored deck, right above the powder magazine detonating it and killing all but three of it's 1418 crew. This enraged the British and they threw everything they could muster at the Bismarck to get vengeance. Long story short a torpedo attack by British sea planes jammed the Bismarck's rudder leaving it a sitting duck. The Brits targeted its main batteries, disabling them and then pounded the ship with 2,156 shells before it finally sank because the Germans scuttled the ship rather than let it be captured. Of its 2,200 men, only 114 survived.

Great reaction. For some reason people really seem to like that video. Can't imagine why. :D Amazing video, there are not many like that, seems more like a high budget hollywood movie than a music video. (Rammsteins Deutschland is another one) But if you want to know what the deal is with Sabaton, and it sort of seems like you want to, :) then perhaps a little starter pack is the way to go. :) So I will suggest 2 other songs/performances/videos to showcase their things. After that, you are good to go in any direction you want. 1. No bullets fly, the animated story video. kzitem.info/news/bejne/xamitWFpgJmWoY4 Since pretty much all their songs have a historic background, the animated story videos are great to get the context, and No bullets fly is something extra for sure. It's about an act of the greatest humanity in pretty much the worst possible time for humanity. 2. En livstid i krig, Live from the Great tour in Gothenburg. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uHipmXtniaiqmYI It's in Swedish so turn on the captions and be prepared to be amazed. There will be smiles from ear to ear mixed with tears and you get to experience what might be the greatest live performance ever. It's the story about a Swedish soldier going into war, the 30 years war that ravaged Europe during the 17:th century. And if you want to delve deeper into their songs, their other channel, Sabaton history, kzitem.info/rock/aG4CBbZih6nLzD08bTBGfw ,where they go into detail about the story behind each of their songs, is a great source of some light history lessons combined with heavy metal. :)

The KMS BISMARCK is powerful representation of Germany's rise from the ashes of the First World War, it was a fearsome combination of size, swiftness and firepower. Bismarck was nominally meant to be 35,000 tons to meet the stipulations of the Washington Naval Treaty which placed limits on the size of battleships What was the most feared battleship? Nazi battleship Bismarck The wreck you see was once the most feared warship in the world. Even now - 60 years after it went to the bottom the Nazi battleship Bismarck is still a fearsome sight. Which ship sank the Bismarck? HMS Dorsetshire Unable to manoeuvre, the Bismarck stood little chance and was finally sunk by two torpedoes fired by HMS Dorsetshire, having withstood two hours of bombardment And the KMS BISMARCK is one of the Most Feared Battleship on her ere in WORLD WAR 2 with her sister ship TIRPITZ
