At 3:26 the solid block there is supposed to be removed before installing the 2.5" drive and once the bottom cover goes back on, that grating on the bottom cover will hold the 2.5" drive in place together with the plastic grating on the laptop itself in order to maintain the alignment of the 2.5" inch drive and hold it in place. So that's why there's no mounting hardware included, it's not needed. The block is hard rubber btw not foam and it's meant to keep the bottom cover from warping when theres no drive in there. I've seen a similar implementation on 2.5" sata to usb drive enclosures which are used to convert internal 2.5" drives to external drives. It's actually a pretty clever way to mount 2.5" drives without screws.

I've had this exact laptop for a few months now and it's awesome, the 144hz with even only 1080p is very smooth with surprising quality. I'm coming from console though, so I've never had a true taste of pc gaming. It's nice being in control of your graphics and being able to keep it all cooled off with the gpu, though it is kinda loud. Nothing a good headset can't solve though. I sat around 60fps running most games on ultra quality but you will want to have it connected to power so 1) it doesn't die and 2) it doesn't default to 30fps because of refresh rate. Well rounded, but again I'm coming from console.

At the top end of the TDP range the 3050 ti is formidable enough, but it's really gimped by the 4gb of VRAM. 4gb is small enough to even hold back the older 1650 ti in a good amount of games and that is a way slower card.

Gf66 katanas have a response time of like 10MS. Wich isn’t bad. About on par with Lenovo legion 5 Wich is a great laptop. But the msi g65 g63 and all those “thin” variants have like 40+ms response times. So a lil bit of wobble or something is much more livable then the bad latency. If u buy a laptop the overall latency should be the very first thing u ask lol. I can’t tell u how many times I’ve found a perfect laptop for 699. But the response time is 30MS. I mean, it's not ideal. A lot of really good laptops like the Omen 15 and the Legion 5 have much better thermal performance, with the high end being like 80-85C as the max I've experienced. With a laptop stand, you can easily lower the high to 67-75C. While I don't think 85-90 is particularly good, it's the top end of how hot a gaming laptop should get. I think they usually start throttling around 100C.

I wouldn't recommend it mostly because the 3050Ti is behind even the 1660Ti and that 4GB of VRAM is anything but future proof btw the MSI GL66 is an awesome choice
@dimitriid
3 жыл бұрын
They're really relying on the fact that the 3050ti is capable of DLSS and the 1660s are not. For the time being more raster performance is just better specially with AMD's FSR now out and about if it hopefully expands to a lot more games (Which can even be done by the end users through mods so not really something you *have* to rely on the devs and publishers for) then the 3050ti is just not a good deal overall.

I yeah but I only really play older games to begin with. There are only a few newer games that I am even interested in and yeah, the eye candy is nice, but a game should be good enough to play without it turned on.
@thidasvinnath8017

@@_shadow_1 well yes tbh I only play games like GTA but what I'm trying to say is that the price to performance ratio isn't that impressive and if you are willing to pay that much for a 3050Ti you might as well go for the 3060 which is marginally better
@_shadow_1

@@thidasvinnath8017 Yeah that is true, If it was in a like 600-800 dollar range for a laptop with one it would be a much better deal for what the 3050ti offers.

Everyone shitting on RTX 3050/ti but u can get laptops with this GPU for less than $1000 and it performs better than 1650/ti. Also RTX cards have DLSS support, so u wanna take advantage of that to get more FPS. So if ur looking for a budget laptop with a good gpu for 1K and less don't hesitate to grab the 3050/ti unless u need more VRAM, shit ton of workload and super high performance. Should be very much fine for a casual gamer and students.

I see a config from Best Buy with an i5/3060 for $999 and debating on getting that since I'm not near a Micro Center and for my use, the core/thread difference won't matter as much as the VRAM/GPU would. Also curious to see if the HP Victus starts becoming more available for different configs for the Ryzen side too

I'm not very impressed by the 3050ti, though to be honest. It's worse than the 1660ti! I don't know why they even bothered to call it a 3000series graphics card. I don't think it'll hold much in the future. Even if I was on a budget I'd just save up for a few more months to get the one with the 3060 instead.
@RuthwikRao

well, 1660Ti is a 6GB card and is the entry gen equivalent of 3060 (on a laptop I mean), while 3050 Ti was perhaps supposed to replace the 4GB 1650 Ti. IMO as a 3D artist, even though the 4GB is a bit low, the new OptiX drivers are well worth it for their help in much faster rendering in sumn like Blender Cycles or Octane, plus it's not like we'd get to work on big productions on a laptop anyway. Do think it should have been 6gb at least

This has to be a joke 1k for a laptop like that with a 3050ti??? You can't even mine on that thing. I bought my laptop brand new with a 1660t for 649 and I also picked up a laptop with 1650 from Acer for 600(you can find them for under 500 refurbished). This year isn'¨t for us reasonable people but rather for those who throw money away, stay far far away from laptops like these. You could still find laptops around 750 or lower at launch with 1660 ti's back in the day and note this is meant to replace the 1650 ti not the 1660 ti.
