Remember their jet flying sooo low over the stadium to open the show? They got fined BIG TIME for that!! They were banned from playing in Cleveland for a long while for that one. The album is Waters' "treatise on mankind". It was also Pink Floyd's "answer" to punk rock, which was really making waves at the time. Sandwiched between "Wish You Were Here" & "The Wall", it's easy to hear just how "raw" this album is compared to their others. Waters said that in the album, the "dogs" were the "driven, go-getters", the "pigs" were those who merely "exist to consume"- the politicians, & the sheep were the easily led, to include the churched, to which point you hear the 23rd Psalm "butchered". I think this was their best (yes) album. Also the last album where the whole group did it "together", & also 1st tour to introduce a 5th member on stage: Snowy White on guitars, who played with Thin Lizzy & more.

in may 1977 i was a casual pink floyd fan, mostly stuff from "the dark side of the moon" and a few other songs i had heard on the radio. then a few days before my 16th birthday my friend said,"pink floyd is playing at anaheim (california) stadium tonight. we should go." that night turned me from a casual fan into an obsessed one. they played animals all the way through, plus stuff from "wish you were here" and "dark side". we sat on the outfield grass passing around joints, and sharing food with other fans. it was a very communal experience. the next day i went out and bought "animals",and throughout that summer i got every album in their back catalog, immersing myself in their music. to say that night at the concert 47 years ago this month changed me is an understatement. my eyes were fully opened for the first time in my life. i went back to school in september with a completely different outlook on the world, people and especially music. thank you, scott where ever you are today.

This is actually my favourite Floyd song and I’ve heard every one since I was a teenager and bought every album, I hammered floyd to death in my teens and 20s and then couldn’t listen to them for years, In some ways it’s that beautiful music and hard politics and life wisdom you feel you need at a young age when you’re discovering new music and it resonates with your energy and vigorous youth feeling all is new and you actually invest in new music to the point of exhaustion, well I did this with Floyd I listened to and bought every album, and well I’ll briefly mention dark side of the moon and being 19 and my magic mushrooms year nuff said lol ✌️ When in my 30s I became a father and was so busy in life that decade was a blur and early 40s. Now my kids are grown up I seem to have more time and look on Floyd even as a new thing again, it’s all coming back to me how this band was part of my very soul and to get back to the first point, I’m listening to them again and DOGS sure is my fave then and now, what goes around comes around 👍…..top tune 👌 This version also with just Roger waters and band from his “in the flesh’ tour is good I post the link dave Gilmore wasn’t there although it had his picture in the vid but at least it’s a good video version I watch often you may like it kzitem.info/news/bejne/wK2DqpZtnZaEmI4si=OQ5jbEUQ9SE5_QNR

Such a unique band. Interesting that you say another Pink Floyd type band couldn't happen now. They had a crazy evolution from the early Syd Barrett style. But it all unfolded and blossomed beautifully. They couldn't have done it without Syd but they also couldn't have done it with him. He set them on their path and then receded, allowing the charismatic genius of Roger to come to the fore and necessitating the inclusion of David. Bands entering the arena now don't have the same space to develop. They were ok at the start but they really grew into a powerful force that carved their own niche.

Thanks for brightening my day with this epic off the classic Animals album, incredible and cynical look at whole groups of people as farm animals, the comments will fill in the blanks but no matter what, another brilliant concept album that blew us away in 1977. We saw this tour in the old Boston Garden, they did a great Animals in its entirety as a first set, David Gilmour was on fire on guitar, and they had a great 5 channel PA with the sound focused right near us, in front of the sound/video island in the middle of the floor. They did all of Wish You Were Here for the 2nd set and did a Dark Side medley for the encore, awesome Floyd show, you can hear a recording of it (and the previous show there in 75) on You Tube. It's not true that full album listens are always the best way to listen to music. However, there are certain albums that are put together that way, with Pink Floyd being the masters of it and likely having more than almost any other artists. For about a decade, they really pushed the full-album concept, from Dark Side of the Moon through The Wall. The Wall was really the epitome of that, telling a complete story and having a full-length movie to "accompany" it.

Listening to Dogs, as your Cat walks behind you saying, how dare She. Pink Floyd's inflatable pig, "Algie," first appeared on the cover of the band's 1977 album Animals. The pig first flew above Heathrow Airport's Battersea Power Station in 1976, causing flights to be canceled. Algie then drifted over the English Channel and landed on a farmer's farm in Kent, where it frightened his cows. The farmer eventually returned Algie to the Pink Floyd crew, who tried one more time on the third day with strict police conditions. The original Pink Floyd pig, a 12-metre (40 ft) helium-filled balloon, was designed by Roger Waters and built in December 1976 by the artist Jeffrey Shaw. Inflatable flying pigs were one of the staple props of Pink Floyd's live shows. The first balloon was a sow, with a male pig balloon later introduced in their 1987 tour. Pigs appeared numerous times in concerts by the band, promoting concerts and record releases.

I spent an entire year exclusively listening to Pink Floyd and "Animals" specifically. For a year, I woke and had breakfast to "Dogs" with the woof woofing he does with instruments and then a clip of a real dog barking comes onto the track. The album is highly spiritual and philosophical. It is loosely based on George Orwell's "Animal Farm", which characterizes people as animals who are predatorial, but his lyrics cut that typology down in the song. This stuff is deep. Check it out. I told you, I spent a year listening exclusively to "Animals" and other Floyd albums, but "Animals" grabbed me the most. It is sit back and let the band take you on a journey album.

Another great reaction Stacey-you are very perceptive. I first saw Floyd perform this and other songs off this album in Liverpool in 1977 before it was released. The working title of Dogs was "You Gotta be Crazy" and Sheep was called "Raving and Drooling" Listen to Sheep.. Dave Gilmour is a lead guitarist of pure class but in Sheep he plays a fantastic rhythm riff. Keep up the good work. Dave - Southport UK.

Hard biting LP with guitar solos that penetrate inside. Floyd with Animals conclude the triology of absence and alienation that began with the dark side of the moon through wish you were here here....Stacey you are beautiful😊
