I'm nowhere near what ballerinas do with their body, but I've just started taking horse riding lessons again, now that I have the means to do it. And I can sense the burn in my body, where muscles are getting a workout, but I love it because it means I'm working with the horse and training my body. P S.: at the moment of this comment, I just came out of a several months long hiatus on physical exercise because of various reasons. Feeling that I need to be more fit to ride better, and be a better rider for the horse who is carrying me, only encourages me to work out more in general.

At risk of being too real in the KZitem comments I'd say there's a fine line there. Kids often conflate being uncomfortable for any duration of time as pain and so in that regard, yeah they need to be "in pain". But no it shouldn't actually hurt nor should they be pushed through real pain

@lillianelightwood6464

Well I did artistic gymnastics for 10 years, and when you are practicing flexibility and technique there is a good “pain”. Is a discomfort showing you are working the right muscles. Ofc, teachers should keep an eye on pain over wrong movements. But, here I can see what he means, they are stretching they need to feel that discomfort. It’s like the sore you feel after a good gym day.

@sarahwenger4479

@@blackberrylipstickbecause ballet still has a bias towards white people. This is so great to see! If I had encouraging dance instructors instead of the discouraging and downright mean ones I had, I may have even stuck with dance…I did ballet, jazz, and was in the beginning stages of tap when I left. I did dance for 11 years (ages 3-14) There were no other instructors/teachers that I could bike to in my city. If there were, who knows where I’d be right now. I paid for my own dance once I turned 10 and had to bike to the studio even if it was raining. I look back now, I’m soon to be 30, with fondness toward the art of each style but with a bit of melancholy. I wish all the dancers the best of experiences and, from the theater world, break a leg!
