I’m so grateful that people of other cultures are experiencing music such as this. In these divided times music can bring us all together! More often then not ( as much as I love rock) country music is everyday American values and lessons that shape our world and our lives.

recently there was a remake of this song with deana Carter and a few others.I read somewhere that nobody wanted this song until Deana Carter stepped up. Everyone who turned it down, well the jokes on them. It became one of the top country songs of all time.

I have heard that too, This song checked everything that the "Experts" said would NEVER be played on country radio in the mid to late '90s... It was a ballad... The subject... The length (The original long version was over 8 minutes, if I recall correctly)... I don't recall just how the secret got out, but it somehow landed on the radio, and it blew up... I know I heard the label execs that let her record it for her album with absolutely NO intention of releasing it as a single... Until they found out how popular it was on the radio stations they swore would never even consider playing it in the first place...

If it makes you feel any better, I went to school with a girl named Deena... Sorry, but she apparently didn't know how to spell either... Hope that makes you feel less "Alone"... Or would that be "Unique"?... If that is the case, you can at least be thankful you know how to spell... BTW... Deena had a twin brother named Dana too...

Hi Shawn and Mel, I don't know. if any one in the squad has mentioned it already or not, but Deana Carter is Johnny Cash's step daughter. She was the daughter of his wife June. Some other performers who are related to Johnny are Rosanne Cash and her one time husband Ronnie Milsap, all wonderful country singers in their own right. Another country singer that I absolutely love that was from the early 90's is Pam Tillis, Her father was also a famous country singer Mel Tillis. He was very unique in that he talked with a pronounced stutter but when he sang it was smooth as silk. He was a great inspiration to me when I was a little girl, because I had a stutter that took several years and a lot of speech therapy to overcome. He was kind of my hero, and I always looked forward to when he was on tv. I really enjoy 90's country, it was a wonderful time in country. music where performers were still holding on to the old traditional things yet trying new melodies and styles. It made for some really fresh music. Love you guys!
