We are in New Zealand where it is usually sunny and getting into summer in December. But each year the winter and spring get longer and the weather is more rainy and windy. This year it has rained so much over the whole country and the wind has been so high they have been closing the forest for horse riding in our area (Auckland). Our summer veges are being planted later. Everyone feels the way you do. Lets hope our summer comes and your rain stops long enough to get outside and do lots of things.

A nice midweek surprise :) You might find slicing the peppers downwards instead of taking the tops off, they're easier to eat then - and roast them in the oven for 30 minutes before stuffing them otherwise yes, they can be unpleasantly crunchy :D Good idea to take January off - it's relentless otherwise! Are we going to have a hunt the strange doggie?

In England we also had above average rainfall this November, but only after a VERY long drought, Just like you ! SO Europe in general could use a cold /wet winter, big time ! Time to keep doing the rain dance ! Think how green, beautiful and easy the spring would be if it rains and rains !! J

Stuffed green peppers are one of my favorites(we call them 'stuffed greenies). My wife does not precook the peppers, she cooks them at 350 deg. F for 1 1/2 hours. they turn out great. She also puts a small amount of tomato juice in the bottom of each pepper, water in the pan about 1/3 up the peppers and dumps the rest of the juice all over everything. I think precooking makes them mushy. Yours looked delicious. Thanks for sharing with us.

You plant seeds like I do. make a row & throw heaps in. I don't believe in mucking around spacing them out perfectly. Waste of time & effort. They grow however they want to. After years of doing it i don't even bother planting most things these days. At the end of the season I just let it all go to seed then when if dies off I run the strimmer through it all & leave it there. Now every season most of my garden self seeds itself.

Hi Guys , not sure what yous do with your beetroot but i boil mine in water with a pinch of salt for about 45 minutes or until you can push a skewer through them easily and rub off the skin under cold water ( cut the leaves off and leave about 2 inchs of stem when boiling them and break off after cooking ) , then bottle whole or sliced with 1/2 cup of brown vinegar 1/2 cup of water and 1 desert spoon of sugar and fill the container , they will keep for ages and taste great , the larger they get the more woody they will get and you,ll notice white rings in them when you cut them , some good tips is to use gloves unless you want purple hands for the next week and use baking paper between the jar and lid to help stop the acid causing rust on the lids , best wishes :)
